Hy Experience with AP RTO has been as follows:

I went to pay the road tax (lifetime validity) with the DD.

The way the RTO fleeces you is as follows:

While making the reciept, they will print the reciept *before* clicking on the Save button on their application.

Then they will use the draft for other people who have paid them.

The reciept will contain all the required details, but when going for a refund, they will say that you have never paid the tax and the reciept is false.

Kudos to the AP RTO for this process. Thought all of you should know.

Hello,

Recently joined CW. Planning to get my car from delhi. In one of the previous post i saw that we have an option of paying the road-tax for 1Yr OR 3Yr's as well. Has anyone paid for this duration ? I searched on the site (AP Transport) but didnt get any guidelines for the same.

Thanks,

v_goyal

There is no such option provided by Hyd RTO.When you go to pay the Tax they will ask you to pay the lifetime tax

Yeah, they will ask you always to pay life time tax... for obvious reasons.

But there is an option to pay for 1year/3years apart from life time tax. For this either you should be aware of the correct info/procedure(which general population does not - again for obvious reasons) or else you should know some good rto agent who either knows you or happy to help you genuinely.

@v_goyal, I would advise to visit either some good known rto fellow (ask localy to your friends/colleagues) else visit Khairatabad RTO and try getting the information from "May I help you" counter or some good rto fello(very difficult to find).

All the best.

Dear All,

I brough my new Maruti Ritz vxi model 05/2009. which I purchased on 10-03-2010 at Rajasthan. At that time I was paid 22100/- as life tax.

Now I moved to Andhra Pradesh permenently. I came here with NOC from RTO-Rajasthan.

Shall I have to pay road tax and life tax here in AP too?? If so how much I have to pay?? Shall I get reumbursement of amount paid at Rajasthan.

Shall I drive the car with Rajasthan registration along with NOC to Ap.

Hope  you will suggest me as soon as possible to dmahikishore@gmail.com

Thankyou all,

I shifted from Hyderabad to Chennai on Oct 2010, with my Wagon-R which has just completed 1 year this month (Feb 2011). I am applying for reregistration in chennai. But I would like to know:

1. Is it possible to get refund of the lifetime tax that I paid at hyderabad last year, if I take the help of Automobile Association in chennai

2. Will I receive any reduction in the lifetime tax that I will need to pay here at chennai or will I be required to pay the entire amount?

Also I am not sure whether I will get transferred to another state in another year.

Please do include me too incase you start up an online group to address such situations.

Thanks

The Life Time Road Tax is a bad idea for a lot of reasons:

1. Government collects and spends taxes in year1 whereas the car will be on the road for at least 10 years. Which means as time goes by, the government will lack the funds to provide the services associated with vehicles. This front ending of income with expenses spread over a number of years is a very very bad idea.

2. It creates complications for transfers - in effect by levying the lifetime tax again if you transfer to another state, we are discouraging free movement within the country. Are we one country, or are we doing a reverse Europe?

3.In cases of transfer there is no refund although this not the official policy. As such this gives scope for fraudulent refunds - or if you prefer simple theft of your money.

I wonder who came up with this brilliant idea and why.

Since it does not make any sense from any logical viewpoint I can only conclude that this whole rule was devised with an eye on maiing money by making all our lives difficult. So much for Indian governance......
