CNG reduces the performance/power by 20-25% while LPG reduces 10-15%.  Therefore, CNG is generally preferred in bigger/more powerful cars while LPG is popular in smaller ones as well.  CNG is more economical than LPG for obvious reasons - difference in the fuel cost & also because CNG improves the mileage while LPG doesn't - for instance, a car giving a mileage of 12 on Petrol will give 14/15 on CNG & 10 on LPG.

Some of the popular & reputed kits are.... for LPG Lovato, BRC, OMVL, Tartarini, Zavoli etc., and for CNG Lovato, BRC, Landi Renzo, Bedini, OMVL etc.  Go for the one that is approved for Alto in particular.

1. a 14 kg cng tank wighs app 70 kgs ............... a 60 ltr lpg tank weighs app 20 kgs

2. cng gives more savings but is por on performance, convinience costs and safety

3. lpg is superior on performance, convinience costs and safety ........ but gives less savings

4. which is better depends on what u value more ........... more savings ...... or .... better performance .. convinience .. and . safety

I differ on the Safety issue. Why is CNG not as safe as LPG? Infact I wud believe that CNG is safer and more economical in the long run.

Rajat if you run your car only 10 kms daily then use petrol only. However if you have a better running CNG is much cheaper than any other fuel available

th issue of safety primarily emanates from th respective pressures of th 2 gases

while lpg has a presssure of just 7 kgs per sq cm ........................ th pressure of cng is a whopping 220 kgs per sq cms ........................ more than 30 times th pressure of lpg

Most factory fitted CNG kits will have the ECU modulate the performance curves for negilgible diff in performance. As for the weight, a 50-60 kg tank will hold abt 15-20 kg gas. So thats like adding another well build adult in the car. U can may be check with the service center if you can add rear springs/dampers from a slightly heavier car...from a Zen/Wagon- may be in Alto's case. Though not really needed.

As far as safety is concerned, safety is higher in CNG as the gas is lighter than air and will quickly move up the atmosphere as against LPG which is heavier and will spread a fire.

Do not go for a gas kit if daily running is 10kms and car will be used for a few yrs only. Long term ownership 5+yrs will save lots of money though.
