Hi Folks,
I am getting my new swift VDI delivered to me tommorow .  I am going for 14" alloys of either plati or Lenso(yet to decide). I am also thinking of going for type upsize and my choice is BridgeStone G3 195/60. but one of the dealer was saying this is too low and i will loose ground clearance by about 20mm. what he was sugessting was 15" alloys and 205/70 tyre size.
My question to the forum is, was he correct or was it yet another marketing stunt to get more money.
Also, what would be the correct tyre size?

Waiting for your responses.

Thanks,
Sathya

The wheel-size in all the versions of Swift (petrol & diesel) is 14 inches  It is recommended not to upgrade the wheel-size, as it generally affects the ride-quality & suspensions.

The tyre-size in most of the versions of Swift is 165/80.  ZXi (petrol) version comes with 185/70 (tubeless).  You can upgrade to that (ZXi) - it will give better road-grip (due to size) but may affect mileage - negligibly, of course.

  • Higher profile tyres are better at absorbing mild road shocks.
  • Lower profile tyres are better at "looking GOOD" but bad for driveability and in case of punctures can more easliy damage the wheels too.
  • Wider profile tyres giver better road grip and control at the expense of slight mileage drop.

However the wheel size of the car is best left untouched (from what is suggested by the manufacturer). Greater wheel size & higher profile tyres would foul with the wheel arches.

Greater wheel size also leads to lesser suspension travel while the car goes on all the potholes. This means that more often than not, you would get to hear the THUD / CLUNK noise coming from the suspension. This could also damage the suspension sooner than expected. And that would mean expensive maintenance.

As suggested by Pankaj, 185/70 is the best option for Swift.

as you are changint o alloys , you can put till 15 " tyres , but soo much wide 205 " is not relly necesary for the swift , even i feel the 185 / 70 R 14 bridgestone G3 potenza would be a better choice ! next option would be the 195 / 70 R 15

While selcting the alloys , select the one which looks good , plus the one which has think spokes , so tyr to get an alloy wheel that has got only upto  4 - 6 spokes , plati alloys are good, as the spokes are thin , the more the chances of getting bent(alloys )

Happy and safe motroing , cngrts

Cheers,

Sri

Alloy Wheels are basically for good/sporty looks.  However, good quality alloys (lighter) help better braking & mileage - slightly/negligibly.

..15" alloys and 195 section tyres are about the max one should upsize on the swift..for look even 17" 215 section tyres can be used..but its only for 'looks'..ie you can sit out side and 'look' at it..it will become almost undrivable.

While choosing alloys check the correct PCD's also as that might become a bother..
tyres- Michelin XM1+ or bridgestone G3(poor life)
alloys - lenso 5 spoke.

in that case go for the 185/70/14 yokohama A300, as they will have better ride, and longer life..
