i'll toh prefer palio.....i have used the old version of the palio (2001)
it was an awesome experience.......and just a few days back i checked out the review of new palio stile at http://olinone.blogspot.com/2008/07/palio-stile-review.html
and loved the new styling of the car plus an awesome 100bhp(palio stile 1.6) of power

Hi every One,

I am reading all the review on both Palio and Swift. Now about my end. I am planning to buy my first car and shortlisted this two. Palio & Swift

My requirement are as follow. kindly revert

I should get good rider feeling while driving. (Probely lit like sport car).

My family size is normal So I don't think I will be facing problem of boot space.

My overall weekly running only on highway is around 600 ++

Probebly I will be modifing my car with Alloy wheel / Stickering / Open Exsost Etc. (which 1 will be good in this two).

My brother n father are good in technical knowledge of cars n they are profetionally working in the same field. (Regarding servicing or addition of exta Filter which car will be suit in this two)

I will be keeping this car around 4-5 year. waiting for 1-2 months is ok for me

Well both the cars are sporty and Share the same engine but swifts tuning of the engine is better and devolps 75 BHP compared to Palios MJDs 70 BHP, the resale value of Palio Diesel wud not hold liek the resale of the Swift D , hence the Swift Diesel has an edge over the Palio , i would prefer yout o buy the Swift Diesel , andprobably think you cud add K&N airfilter to itand modify it nicely!

    Cheers,
    Sri

Well looking at your requirements and conditions lets evaluate.
                               Swift            Palio
Waiting period: >6 months    15 days
Booking :- None are available off the shelf but my office colleagues were telling me Maruti is not taking booking for Swift diesel and they are focussing to sell Dezire.
Drive Quality: Palio is certainly the best in class however in terms of peppiness and good gear shift Swift is just tooo good in places where frequent gear shifting is required.
Build Quality:- Palio is still teh same old tank feel whereas Swift you will get used to the body noise.

Decision: I can suggest you to go for a Palio and save a few for accessories as compared to swift. If budget is no constrain you can very well check GetzD also, trust me it is very good except the price

Technically both have the same torque as it is the same engine but the maruti website quotes it 19KGM whereas fiat quotes 18.4 KGM

I would like to add here that the output of the engine of Swift-D & Palio MJD are the same power rating (75bhp). However in both the vehicles the engine has been tuned differently. Maruti has been able to extract slightly more torque off the engine (may be better gear ratios) and that's why it is 190Nm for Swift-D & 184Nm for Palio MJD.

I guess Swift would be much better for external modifications & alterations. Especially if you are interested in modifying for sports like effects. Swift dash design would be more appealing than Palio's (which has remained unchanged since day1 for Palio in India).

Ofcourse there is a wait time with the Swift. I think FIAT has made up it's mind on focussing on impending Punto launch than to upgrade Palio. Let's know after your testruns.

Well just for FYI Maruti has stopped bookings of Swift Diesel rather only bookings of desire are being taken. Well external modifications are possible in both on the dash front if you wish to modify Swift's then you can modify Palio's too. So the option is all yours. about the car Company's well fiat is already making money without actually manufacturing cars by selling manufacturing licences to companies and is making itself a technology provider which is smart. But still the palio is well engineered and has one of the best user friendly features which you would only realise once you sit in it. The car is more robust and better built than any.
