Indica Turbo is a very good car.  But I would request if you could elaborate on your usage/run (city & highway), family size, preferences etc. - all this will help in recommending a car more appropriately.

Also tell us the details of Indica Turbo - the model/month of 2006, Kms driven, version (DLS/DLG/DLX) & your city of location.

Thanks.

You get a lot of used cars for that price range. From a fairly new Alto to an old sedan - in diesel and petrol variants.

Please elaborate on your usage patterns - that would help us suggest something for you. The most happening cars in the resale market are the santro and the WagonR - both of them, a car in good condition and about 2-3 years old one would cost you around 2.5 lakhs

Cheers,

K Prasad

Your run does not justify purchase of diesel car - you may consider WagonR - it will also be more convenient for women driving (sister).

However, if you are inclined on purchasing a Diesel car, Indica Turbo, as stated by you before, is a good choice. Diesel engines are quite refined now and are virtually as good as petrol. Maintenance cost too is not as high as it used to be earlier.

Both the cars 2 to 3 years old with 25/35K driven would cost in the range of Rs.2.5 to 3 lac.  WagonR (older model) would give a mileage of 13/14 in city & 16/17 on highway, and Indica Turbo 16/18 in city & 21/22 on highway (depending upon the driving condition & style). Maintenance cost of WagonR (Petrol) will be cheaper than Indica Turbo (Diesel).

Yes, looks of WagonR is not so good - to me it looks like a dabba (no offence meant to owners) but is a very good small segment family car.

Regarding that car-fair in Surat.... it's very popular & known to be good.  But, as far as I understand about Surat (I too am from Gujarat), buying a car therefrom is not advisable - cars in Surat are generally not maintained well (people are dirt-rich) & also indulge in tampering with the the kms driven.  Besides, it's always prudent to purchase a 2nd hand car locally, as its antecedents could be verified easily.

By the way, if you can extend your budget up to Rs.4.5 lac, please consider going for a new car - WagonR or Indica Turbo or any that suits your usage & preferences.  Just forget 2nd hand car.

Based on your usage, first of all you don't need a diesel car - you can still go for it if you love diesel technology - no qualms what so ever. If you want to go for a sedan, you need to expand your budget slightly as you will get a very old one for 2-3.5 and being old means high on maintenance.

Indica turbo is a good pick - a 1.5 year old Indica turbo DLX (fully loaded) will come within the price range stated by you, but then, I am sure your sister might not love it for it is slightly difficult on ladies to drive. Other alternatives include WagonR / Santro - They are my picks - if you don't like the looks of WagonR, go for a Santro. you can get it for about 2.75 lakhs for a 1.5 year old one.

Cheers,

K Prasad

You could also try the Palio Diesel 05 model or the Petra Diesel too , it will also be a better buy , the other option would be a sPankaj as KVSK said the indica turbo DLG 06

Cheers,
Sri
