Today I happened to bend and peak underneath the rear wheel of a Toyota Innova. I fully expected to see a twist axle or a subframe with multi link suspension.

I was quite surprised to find a fully boxed frame with a 4 link rear suspension. So this is a real SUV. Not a minivan like the dodge caravan or the toyota sienna.

Slowly; I started to realise why this vehicle works. As I moved to the front, I saw a large diameter stabilizer bar and a double wishbone suspension. The frame rails looked like that of a large SUV.

Why can't indian OEMs simply copy this geometry. The ride on regular roads and off road are much better than the sumo grande or scorpio. This is no rocket science.

Add AWD option and some more power and I think this might be an exciting package...

If i am not wrong then the Indica has a 3-link rear suspension. And it is supposed to work better than normal ones in other vehicles.

hi my comment was more specific to suv like sumo and scorpio. Small cars are a different architecture. I find the suvs in general have very poor ride and handling partly due to geometry and partly due to design. Why not improve when there is an opportunity to learn from other products?

I am moving to India and am wondering how long the Innova has been out in the Indian car market?  Does anyone know?

Thanks
