I have heard (not sure) that Indica Xeta has some problem with CNG retrofittment. However, it is very popular here in Gujarat - especially in Surat.  Xeta, like Indica, is very spacious & comfortable, and has good/decent features.  Esteem CNG is also a good choice.  Esteem too is spacious & comfortable.

But I personally feel... one should not go for LPG/CNG retrofitted 2nd hand cars.  Instead, one should buy a 2nd hand car & go for retrofittment - that will give a brand new LPG/CNG kit, and resultantly better performance.

In any case, Esteem will be better, as it generates power of 85ps as against Indica (Diesel)'s 53 ps.  CNG retrofittment reduces the power by 10ps (approx) - so Indica's performance with CNG would be very sluggish (43ps) as compared to Esteeem's (75ps).

well pankaj i think the indica is not retrofitted with cng. he is in a dilema if he should go in for esteem retrofitted with cng or indica diesel(no cng fitment) if i am not mistaken.the esteem is cng fitted but not the indica.

subhash, i agree with pankaj. its better not to go in for retrofitted cng cars.better go in for the indica diesel. you have not mentioned as to in what conditions the cars are as far as kms and engine is concerned and also what price you are getting it for. you have not mentioned your driving conditions either. it would be a bit difficult to suggest without these details.

Hi Sri Sub,

You have got my question perfectly right.

Wel i would be traveling approx 60 Km to 80 Km per day, from this 50% will be city driving & 50% will be highway driving. I have not started seeing any car, as i am yet to dicide on which car to go for. The agents & car dealers to whom i have spoken say both will cost me approximately same value (Esteem on little higher side). & most of  them are pushing me for Esteem with CNG over Indica Diseal, if i am going for any car whch is over 5 year old. My budget is only 1.5 Lac to 2 Lac.

Oh sorry, I somehow mis-judged your question.

So, now between Esteem CNG & Indica Diesel, I would first say that running cost in both the cars would come to more or less same - as Indica is very fuel efficient (17/18 in city & 21/22 on highway).  I would recommend Indica Diesel, as it is more comfortable & spacious - especially looking to your daily run. In future, resale of Indica, I feel, will fetch you a little more.

Go for Indica Diesel, in any case you will get around 15kmpl in bad driving conditions. Car is spacious too. If you are getting a Good Indica at resonable price, go for it.

i would suggest the indica diesel by all means. the esteem is not advisible as its not company fitted with cng kit (or is it???).indica is spacious enough like the esteem. only you may feel the lack of boot space but then you can get used to. again indica is not tampered with(read as retrofitted with cng kit). so i would suggest the diesel indica as the running cost would not be much different between the two.

Esteem soon is going to be a piece of history. Indica Diesel is going to be the choice - I am with an assumption that your usage is well above 1200 km per month.
