You need to pay tax at Mumbai & get your car registered there. For the purpose, you need to produce NOC issued by Gurgaon. Gurgaon RTO, as per rules & procedure followed, may insist for physical presence/inspection of your car before issuing the NOC.  However, as you have since moved the car to Mumbai and the same is not possible, you may have to manage NOC without making your car available there for inspection.  I think a good & reputed agent at Gurgaon RTO may be able to do so.

Life-time tax paid at Gurgaon can be sought for, for refund - it will be refunded on pro-rata basis.  It's a lengthy process - you need to do it through a good & reputed agent and a friend to follow-up locally (Gurgaon).

I need expert's advice.

I am from TN. I like to buy a second-hand car from Mumbai. The is SUV mahindra 2011 model. The deal is almost over. However people say, I have to pay heavy taxes and transferring expenses to transfer the registration from Mumbai to TN. The owner of the car is ready to sell this for 13.5 lacs. If I buy this car and use re-register on my name  in TN, what are the expenses I have to pay. (such as road tax...entry tax...etc) If the overall expenses are exceeding my budget I may drop the idea of buying this car. Also I like to know within how many months I have to do this transfer?

I need expert's advice...pls..

dear dominic,

as far as i undrestand, u need to take the sale deed an NOC form mumbai RTO. then register the car in ur name in TN. pay the road tax in TN . u ll need the original invoice that the owner got when he purchased car from the showroom to pay the road tax. take refund from mumbai. this is a very tricky part and u may need someone to follow up there.

u can bargain and ask him to follow up with the refund procedure and take the refund. A win win situation if u make a good understanding.

the RTO site shall explain about the procedure, the form, fees etc.

regards
