What is the duration and cost to get the extended warranty on an Indica XETA? Is it worth the extra bucks? What does it cover?

Also, what is the period of the initial warranty?

Thanks

I do not have the figures you have enquired about.  All cars generally come with a warranty of 18 to 24 months.  Xeta probably has 18 months of warranty (like in case of Indica V2).

Here I wish to share one thing that extended warranty on any car is only a waste of money, as manufacturing defect, if any, normally surfaces within 6 months - in any case the warranty is for 18/24 months.  Extended warranty should be a part of bargain - if it comes free, fine - else, forget about it.

Point noted, Pankaj.

Are you saying that extended warranty ONLY covers manufacturing defects, and if there is a manufacturing defect, it would certainly crop up within the first tweleve months, which the initial warranty would cover anyway, correct?
If so, then you're right. Paying for extended warranty makes no sense.

Sorry Jascha, I should have elaborated a little…. Extended Warranty covers all that Warranty covers - it is an extension of the warranty, as the name itself suggests.

Warranty (or extended warranty) covers manufacturing defects, maintenance services, running repairs & replacements of parts (running repairs).  However, charges for labour, oil, coolant, filters etc. are all payable (even during free services).

Importantly, the warranty/extended warranty does not cover tyres, batteries, accessories and car care & detailing products, and repairs arising on account of accident / external damages, natural disasters, water logging, racing/rallies etc. etc.

As such, a new car is always problem-free (unless in case of manufacturing defect). Maintenance & repairing costs gradually start after 2/3 years only.

Therefore, Warranty/Extended Warranty is fruitful/beneficial (ironically) only in case of manufacturing defects.

Hi,

the warranty details provided by Chamara seems to be something from the US - I don't think we get that India - In India,

1. Road side assistance means you need to carry a Long strong rope in your boot - in case of issues, get towed by a passing by truck.

2. Carry an empty mineral water bottle to ensure that even if you run out of gas, you can stop a passerby for a lift to the nearest bunk

3. Certainly put an idol of Ganesha / Sai Baba / Jesus and worship well before turning the keys.

4. Stop by a lake for water to cool the car off in case the coolant is seen missing - the bottle comes to use here also.

All in all never forget to carry a big strong rope and an empty bottle when in India and that is your 24 hours road-side assistance taken care of.

Regards,

K Prasad

Well, I appreciate the better warranties available elsewhere (outside India) but there is no point being critical or comparing it - except for academic purpose.  Till it is also available here, lets take full use of bottles ;-)

Guess what get along with my Swift as part of the overall delivery -

A tripod warning reflector and assorted accesories to be used when you need to tow the car. The best piece of gadget they provide is the first-aid kit which very typically in India carries an ointment that is about to expire in a couple of months - as if to say that I might run into trouble in the first two months  - Wonder why they left a bottle or maybe they find it cheap enough to be taken care by the customer.

What a list to go with a brand new car and a great way of wishing me luck. Unfortunately, we are yet to graduate to the next level wherein the product and the services are sold to customers as a package

Cheers,

K Prasad

I got 3rd year extended warranty for my Swift VXi as a dealer offer. I took delivery on Dec 19th , 2008. At the time of delivery dealer told me that I will get 3rd year warranty as a mailer in 1-2 month since it's not a part of standard warranty from manufacturer.

Now its almost 2 months and no updates from dealer rather than different stories and versions.

Guys, Any of you got similar extended warranty from delaer for Maruti cars and how many days it took to get the warranty card? Appreciate your help on this
