Hi All,

Driviging in city conditions, I felt that if we can have a couple of improvements in power transmision of cars, life for all drivers, particularly, new drivers would be so much better, and not to mention much safer for every one on road

One) just like gear less mopeds, a provision to break your vehicle (to 0) and then simply start without stopping the engine. In traffic jams, or ver slow traffic, a lot of people get stuck as they do not release the clutch smoothly and the car stops with a jerk. This is not good for the car or for traffic in genral. If we have an option like say in first gear, the engine wont stop even at 0 speed or when left idle, it will really be good for city driving.

Two) A reverse break, that only prevents the car from going back but has no role to play if the car is moving forward. This is again for people who are not adept at using clutch as in hilly areas or while climbing on flyovers admist a jam, one is forced to use a combination of clutch break and accelerator to ensue theat the car moves up, stops exactly where it should and does not roll backwards.

I am not too sure if there is any technology of this sort available anywhere int he world, but I guess it should not be very complicated, but definitely very useful while driving.

What say?

I guess the improvements you require are easily achieved in an automatic transmission car. At least I have seen those in a SANTRO AT as there is no clutch

Himanshu, academically I understand, but I'm sure once you get conversant with the driving skills & attain fluency, you love the way it is - and you will do that very soon

Actually one car company did hear your request. Subaru has technology that does not let the car go backwards when starting on a slope. I believe it is called "hill dicent" or something like that. It is exactly meant to help such situations in a manual transmission.
