There's no restriction in using the car in another state for a period not exceding 3 months.  For a period exceeding 3 months but less than 1 year, 1-year tax is required to be paid.  For use of more than 1 year, it will require to be re-registered by paying the life-time tax applicable at Bangalore - on depreciated value of the car (2nd hand).  For re-registration at Bangalore, you will need to obtain an NOC from Kerala.

Amount of tax/es I'm not aware of - please check locally (Bangalore).

Hi,

I was wondering if you guys could give me a little advise on my situation.

I am bringing my 2007 July Kerala registration Swift car to bangalore.I dont know how long i am going to be there maybe a year or for a few months coz of the nature of my work.I have the following questions..

1.How long can I drive in Bangalore just by showing the pollution certificate I got from kerala and not paying the road tax there?

2.Otherrwise,if I am paying the tax(not transferring the reg, just paying the tax to drive in bangalore) how much will i need to pay considering the car was bought for 4.5laks ans is now 1.5 years old?

3.From what research I have done online(coz i am abroad right now),I have herd that i need to pay the road tax(10%) and entry tax(coz my car is more than 15months old)(another 10%)..that would together come to 20% of the cost of the car right, meanins close to 1lakh...!! Am I right or is there someting i am missing...

Dont worry !!! If you are from Kerala go to your home town every 2 months. Get Petrol Bills/PUC done. You can save money.

Normally I dont advice this kind of trick but cant help it due to our stupid administration rule.

Taxes are very high in Bangalore, as I also understand.

Otherwise, speaking in general, for usage not exceeding 1 year, one needs to pay 1-year tax, as applicable to old cars at depreciated value assessed by RTO concerned.  Re-registration/NOC is required on relocation for a period exceeding 1 year.

You will have to get it re-registered by paying life-time tax, as applicable to 2nd hand car on the depreciated value assessed by RTO.

I think the tax rate is 12% (of the value assessed by RTO).
