I have a bike from Kerala and Iam using it in Bangalore. I have not taken NOC from Kerala RTO.
Should I pay the road tax?
How long can I drive without paying the road tax?
Should I change the bike registration? If so within what period?
Is NOC from kerala required to change the Reg.?

Now the Karnataka RTO / Police started noting the number and entering into central system using blackberry.

If they entered your vehicle number multiple times within a span of period ( Eg : 5 entries over a period

of 3 months with 10 days gap between each entry), then they will take your original RC book or the car.

Your car will be given back only if u pay the full tax tax ( around 73k ).

They wont leave even if you tell them that u came here few days back or you were travelling from and to...

It is a clear evidance that your car is running through karnataka road over these period.

Hi All,

I have a similar problem. I had bought a new Chevrolet Spark LS 1.0 in Kolkata about one year ago. Now i have got a new job at Bangalore & hence i need to transfer my car. I have gone through a lot of posts in the forum & Karanataka RTO website FAQ as well.

I found that:

1) I may continue to drive using WB registration upto 12 months in Bangalore after which re-registration is must

2) NOC from local RTO is needed for re-registration, not for paying road tax in Bangalore.

Now i have confusion regarding few points as i found different views on it.

1) Is it required to pay road tax in Bangalore in first 12 months(since i have already paid road tax for 5 years in West Bengal)? Please let me know the maximum time period for which the vehicle is allowed to be used without paying road tax in Bangalore.

2) I found that there is lifetime road tax for 15 years to be paid in Bangalore. But i read there is also something called annual road tax in Bangalore. Please let me know if there is option available for paying annual road tax(i am not a govt employee).

3) RTO FAQ says migration of car should be intimated within 30 days of arrival. Is the process painful?

4) My car price was around 3.15 lakhs 1 year ago. What should be the apprximate road tax amount for 15 years?

Please help.Any comment/suggestion is welcome.
