Sachin,

Where are the rear fills? Have you missed them or are you not putting them.
Rest of the configurations looks nice.

Dampings are advisable, but not mandatory.

@Ameen

As of now not plannig for rear fills since the rear seat occupancy is nill most of the time.

@kartik

As far as I know, The damping sheets reduces the resonance therby reduces the rattling on the doors when speakers are playing.

@sachin
Seems to be a good setup-how much are you paying for the HU? Also if you are planning to upgrade the system later on then a 6050 in grey will be much better and the price will be same or about 500/- more than a 5050 with bill and warranty.
The parametric equalizer in the 6050 is much better-sorry if i have added on to the confusion.

The speakers are really good-damping is not required for this sort of setup-but make sure that there is no gap between the MDF ring and the door-can use the adhesive tapes that come with the speakers.

Also the 637 feature tweeter level controls so-get the SQ right before reinstalling the door pads-as adjusting them later will not be practically possible.

The prices quoted are -

Pioneer 5050 : 6500/-

GTO 637 : 3950/- [with bill]

How are the GTO 637 tweeter levels adjusted?

@ Binoy

Saw the GTO 637 tweeter adjustment instructions at the JBL site :

http://manuals.harman.com/JBL/CAR/Owner%27s%20Manual/GTO%20ME%20OM%2005.pdf

Also howz GTO 638 performance when compared to GTO 637?

Well Sachin you saved me a lot of explaining!!

There is hardly any real performance difference between the 638 and 637-the 638 is 2008 model and the 637 a 2007 model.

Set the tweeter levels with the HU equalizer settings at full flat-then adjust the tweeters to your preference-then further adjustments can be done at the HU-many 'installers' lack good knowledge of fine tuning-so requires a lot of patience at the time of installation.

Damping is not really needed for such basic configuration..You can do without that.. No point spending 1400 on that.... Chill

damping is required-ideally for any audio setup-in this case the economics take precedence.

Hey Kartik,

Was busy with something else buddy. So, not logging on that frequently these days.

Damping
is the absorption of movement. Dynamat etc dont really absorb sound, they stop vibrations from being transmitted from the speaker to other solid material (such as your car door and panel).

Ideally, for good sound only the speaker cone should vibrate, thus vibrating the air and producing sound. When the door also vibrates sound gets worse (cuz the entire door is acting like a speaker, and doors are not designed to be speakers). Also, the vibration leads to rattles (not good for sound) and eventually little things start falling off or wearing away.

Normally the doors are damped (and the boot too if there is a subwoofer). It makes the car litle heavier and reduces the vibration of unnecessary items along with the speakers, thus increasing the Sound Quality. Moreover, when you damp the doors properly it kind of creates an enclosure for ur speakers increasing the sound quality. I stil havent got my car damped with the damping sheets still lying at home... MOst of the installers in Hyd do not know the proper way to damp. Will be doing it myself shortly with the help of a couple of friends

Here in this case, damping is really not necessary and I would suggest you that it wouldnt make that much of a difference. If you really see any rattling of the doors or any external vibrations, you can  think of it later. This is just my suggestion. External vibrations cud occur even if the spacer rings are not properly fit too. So check it out properly b4 u think of investing any further. As as i had mentioned earlier, my car is running with such a huge system without any damping for the past 6 months....

Cheers
Rav
