Hey Kartik,
Was busy with something else buddy. So, not logging on that frequently these days.
Damping is the absorption of movement. Dynamat etc
dont really absorb sound, they stop vibrations from being transmitted from the
speaker to other solid material (such as your car door and
panel). Ideally, for good sound only the speaker cone should vibrate,
thus vibrating the air and producing sound. When the door also vibrates sound
gets worse (cuz the entire door is acting like a speaker, and doors are not
designed to be speakers). Also, the vibration leads to rattles (not good for
sound) and eventually little things start falling off or wearing away. Normally the doors are damped (and the boot too if there is a subwoofer). It makes the car litle heavier and reduces the vibration of unnecessary items along with the speakers, thus increasing the Sound Quality. Moreover, when you damp the doors properly it kind of creates an enclosure for ur speakers increasing the sound quality. I stil havent got my car damped with the damping sheets still lying at home... MOst of the installers in Hyd do not know the proper way to damp. Will be doing it myself shortly with the help of a couple of friends Here in this case, damping is really not necessary and I would suggest you that it wouldnt make that much of a difference. If you really see any rattling of the doors or any external vibrations, you can think of it later. This is just my suggestion. External vibrations cud occur even if the spacer rings are not properly fit too. So check it out properly b4 u think of investing any further. As as i had mentioned earlier, my car is running with such a huge system without any damping for the past 6 months.... Cheers Rav
