That's more like it.

Still engine refinement is a part. Similarly all other stuffs like aerodynamics, gear box etc etc does also count towards FE.

Palio is built for roads similar to that in India. So it's ride quality is better than Swift. 1.6 is a very powerful engione. The only disadvantage that Palio has is its mileage. Nothing else. Its all upto you you to decide now.

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

Is this that simple ???

There are more aspects to Swift than mere mileage. Doesn't it look bigger than palio ?

It also appears broad whereas Palio sports appears compact. Top speed of swift is also not too behind. It is 174km/hr [I dont know what's the top speed of palio though ]. Not to mention, ASS and Resale things...

My question is, is this justified to get only 8 to 9 km/hr FE only because of so called performance  (which is also not significantly great) ???

You Are Right Daljit,

when it comes to palio ther are two major drawbacks a) Mileage b) resale value. And one minor disadvantage of after sales service (though it has improved a lot but still lags behind that of a maruti)

However, it is more spacious tha swift (do not go by outerlooks, swift is quite cramped as comapred to what it looks from outside). Palio certainly will be far more peppy to ride as compared to swift (just to top speed does not indicate performance), it is much more sturdy and will give you more assurnace while going on high speeds.

Hmmmm...

Yes dear Himanshu ji, I fully agree with you on that. Many doubts cleared as I related top speed  directly with performance Embarassed

But you tell me, which car has more road presence ? Or simply put, which car creates impression on road ?

Swift, Palio sport or some other car ? Please elaborate ...

Smile

DJ

Impression on road - Swift anyday. It gives you enormous options for accessorising.

Palio 1.6 has good performance. Still I feel it as old wine in new bottle.

In the past few weeks, I am seeing more new palios (yellow sticker) than swifts. It used to be a rare sighting before. Looks like the sales has picked up a bit for these Fiat guys. BTW, I am talking about hyderabad-hi-tec-jublii hills area only. Just a data point here.

Impression on the road, Palio 1.6. I like the looks of the new Stile and will prefer it over the Swift.

I fully endorse Ameen's views : When it comes to impression, Swift carries the day. Agreed, its interiors are cramped and you may feel tight in it but (..and this is not a small "but" ) it looks great on road with muscular, wide Lion-like body. I think exteriors create overall impression on the road. And that is where Swift excels.

Surprisingly, there are suddenly so many palios on the road. That is a welcome sight. I love Palio for its sturdiness. But when it comes and goes or moves around it looks surprisingly small. infact not bigger than Zen Cry

BTW, I have checked the famous "thud" of both the cars. I did not find any difference. Do you think Swift is made of a paper ?

Still, I dont like Maruti people. They dont give any discounts on Swift. Even Honda starts giving discount. The Maruti Suzuki has become arrogant by virtue of their market standing. They need to be taught a lesson. But then, their products are great which explains why they dont care much.

@Daljit: What is it that you're looking for, in your new ride - resale, low maintenance costs, looks, FE, fun to drive factor,...? This way, you'll be able to get better suggestions!
