I own Indica V2 Turbo DLS BS III since June 2006. I share hereunder my experience with it until now:

I've since driven it 23000 kms in 18 months, of which 14000 kms on highway and the rest in city. The mileage I have been constantly deriving in city is 17/18 kmspl and on highways 21/22 kmspl (@ speed of 80/85 kmsph). It’s a very economical car - per KM cost in city works out between Rs.2 to Rs.2.10 and on highway between Rs.1.65 to Rs.1.70.

The car is very spacious, comfortable & smooth running vehicle - I have driven a maximum of 650 kms in one single day (from Akola to Vadodara).  The road grip is fantastic and the AC is very effective.  Its pick-up is no more sluggish even with AC on, as it is in the case of non-Turbo.  The initial pick-up cannot, however, be compared with that of a petrol car of its segment but later on it is as good.  Overall, you virtually don’t feel you are driving a diesel car.  It’s comfortable for city drive as well -though not as easy as it is with WagonRs, Santros & the like.  Nevertheless, it is only a matter of getting used to it - especially as you don’t get to see an inch of bonnet (howsoever tall you may be).

It’s a very sturdy & safe car with a strong body.  The interiors are sufficiently good for the cost of the car. One can, however, go for higher versions DLG/DLX/DLX(ABS & Air Bags) for better interiors & more facilities.

Regarding maintenance, until now (23000 kms of run in 18 months) I have not spent a single rupee on any repairs or replacements of spareparts whatsoever.

As I have said, until now (23000 kms in 18 months) I have not spent a single rupee on repairs & replacement of spareparts.  The only expenses incurred by me are for the oil change & top-ups of coolant.

In my opinion Indica Turbo is not the same as is non-Turbo - there is vast difference in performance & cost of maintenance of the two.

I personally feel that people at large do not know about the difference between the performance of Turbo model & non-Turbo model.  Had Tata launched this Turbo model with a different name & looks, things would have been apparently different.

yes i know th differnce between Turbo and the Non Turbo Indica , the Turbo is very better advamced  but still i feel the Turbo is not the kinda generation which tata shud put for thier indica , am anxiously waiting for tata to have thier CRDI engne on the Indica  they have already done that with Indigo

Cheers,
Sri

I understand that CRDi engine (Tata-Fiat) is likely be launched by April 2008 or so & will probably be named Indica V3 (1.3 ltr).  It will be priced higher than Indica Turbo & the Turbo will not be discounted.

Coming back to Indica Turbo, I wish to share important aspect about the versions (DLS, DLG & DLX)....  Amongst the Turbo versions, DLG & DLX versions, besides having better interiors & features, have little more power (pick-up) than DLS.  But those give little less mileage (1/1.5 km less).  Engine noise in DLG & DLX is slightly more than DLS and is also said to have slight vibration.  DLS version has no such problems & is the most successful version.

Banwari/Ashish,

I request if you could post your honest opinion on Indica Turbo vis-a-vis my experience stated in this thread.

I request you to do so, as I have until now not come across any expert opinion/review or test-drive review on Turbo, and have also not come across your personal views in the forums.

I hope you don't mind my request. Thanks.

i feel the Indica Turbo is faaar better than the non turbo ones and Pricing is also cool , offers decent power , but tatas are usually not all that good for Keeping it for a Long time and most of them are pprone to Probs , and after the Launch of Swift Diesel , the situation for Indica was worsened , mmost the buyers or Indica Disel ( nn turbo ) are the taxi guys and prvate guys go for the turbo but now most go for the Swift Diesel

Cheers,

Sri

Sri,

Statistically speaking, 30-35% of the cars on the road are Indica (irrespective of model/version).  Indica is not a Taxiwala’s car (we don't have so many taxis, I suppose) – it is only a myth.  One can see plenty of private Indicas on road.  As such, other/bigger cars too are used as taxis. Anyway!

I agree Turbo is far better than Non-Turbo, and Swift (Diesel)  better than Turbo.  But statistically speaking, most people go for non-Turbo, some for Turbo & few for Swift. Anyway!

In any case, as you may appreciate, my question/request to Banwari/Ashish was in different/specific context.

Cheers.
