So far i have used my Indica V2 DLS 1,70,000 kms and is pretty satisfied with the car's perfomance.I have driven it from Dimapur(Nagaland) to Trivandrum(Kerala) nearly 3800 kms in 6 days. That's why i can make honest opinion on tthe car, through out the journey it was quite fine there was literally no problem. The maintenance cost was also negligible till it clocked 1,50,000 kms,but it is worth mentioning that it was poorly mainatained vehicle. One thing i would like to mention here is regarding the service-the service personals are not co operative or properly trained in certain regions exspecially in North East, when we contact them for some emergancy service they don't mind to attend even when we are on a long drive or perhaps even on a marathon drive, they usually say that they may attend it on the next day. That's not the case of a maruthi service points. If Tata does not care this aspect with serious concern it would be detrimental for them. Now i am planning to change the car and only due to this aspect i even thought of going for a maruthi Swift diesal for better service and customer relation.Still i could not find it a better value for money option than Tata Indica.I can easily recommended Tata Indica to any one.

Hi Sibi,
You are right about this service aspect.
Though i am not using a Tata car as of now.
I got to see this cold behaviour when i was checking out for my new car. I was in this tata show room and was going around the car, there were so many sales people there but nobody bothered to turn and ask what am i exactly looking for etc.
But the same in Hyundai showroom was that the sales person come up to me the moment i enetered the showroom.
The maruti people wnet ahead with giving a seat and explaining the basic details before taking me to the car.
That makes a lot of difference.
But no doubt tata cars are VFM.

Yes, though I haven't had any bitter experience until now - 4 free services & a couple of visits for routine check-ups before long drives, I fully agree that Tata lack the professionalism that Maruti, Hyundai etc. have.  Had it not been so, Tata would have benefited much more from given infrastructure & all that they have. But of late, there is some change in their approach - especially with the new dealers - their follow up is reasonably good, they welcome clients, offer them a decent place/sofa to sit and serve water & tea.  They have also started discussing/explaining your car problems with you.  Hope that spreads all over to other/old dealers as well - for better.

I recently visited a TATA showroom in Bangalore and found the Customer Service very good. Infact i went in with a notion that these folks would be a little more partial towards the indigenous vehicles. I was suprised to find the CSE's equally enthusiastic to talk about FIAT cars too. I also found them to be non-intrusive when i just wanted to see one of the new cars.

In fact, recently here in my city, Tata had arranged for a road-side camp offering road-tests, like Maruti & Hyundai do.  Tata have also started offering free service camps once in 3/4 months - most popular being the one for free servicing / check-up of AC.

Here I wish to share a beautiful experience I have had with Tata Motors during the time of purchasing / taking delivery of my Indica V2 Turbo BS III…

Though I was thinking of buying a car for quite some time, I all of a sudden (30/05/06) decided to purchase it immediately before my daughter left for hostel in a week’s time.  Those days we / our city didn’t have any dealer (we have one since Oct 06).  On the same night I managed to get telephone nos. of all the 8 dealers of Gujarat from Tata’s website.  Next day I telephoned the nearest dealer (170 kms) & to my surprise learned that Turbo models were not readily available anywhere (in Gujarat), and that, I’ll have to wait for 3 weeks.  I telephoned the other dealers but in vain.  At last, to my good luck, the dealer in Vapi (475 kms) said he will be able to deliver one to me and, luckily again, of my choice colour (Smoke Metal).  He refused for any discount – except for miscellaneous accessories worth Rs.1950/- (as per their price list).

As decided, in a couple of hours I got a draft issued in their name (Rathod Motors, Vapi) & in the afternoon I faxed it along with my PAN Card & Telephone/Electricity Bill (residential proof) – for them to enable delivery of the car next day in the morning (01/06/2006). My friend & I traveled overnight & reached Vapi just after the show room opened.  The showroom is a 2-floored gigantic building having different segments/ departments to deal with different things, a huge work-shop, accessories shop, insurance, finance, waiting rooms, staff canteen etc. etc. and a couple of guest rooms (like hotel rooms) - all maintained neatly & tidily.  We were later told that Tata Motors had recognized this showroom as one of the ideal showrooms in India.

.... (contd. in the next post)

(contd. from the previous post)....

We were pleasantly surprised to see that they had already readied my car for the delivery the previous day itself. The showroom in-charge & other staff welcomed us as if they knew us well.  We were first taken to a rest room & asked to take a bath & freshen-up (they knew we had traveled overnight).  Soon thereafter we were served with breakfast & tea.  Once we were through all this, we finalised on the Player (Blaupunkt) & Seat Covers.  By the time those were being fitted, we went & met the owner – a young & handsome man in his late 20s (Amit Rathod). Surprisingly, even he knew about our visit.  We had a long chat & coffee/biscuits with him.  My friend by the way remarked that he should be considerate enough to pass some discount – and in no time without any fuss he extended dealer’s discount of Rs.5000/- & also gave 10% discount on Blaupunkt (Rs.12850/-) & Seat Covers (Rs.4000/-), saying this was because we had come all the way from Bhavnagar.

Thereafter, in order to save time, as we wanted to reach back home the same night, we decided to go in the meantime for lunch by an auto.  Upon knowing this, he offered us to have lunch in their staff canteen.  When we refused saying we actually wanted to have it in Daman (20 kms away), he immediately sent a car & a driver with us who not only took us to a good restaurant but also took us around for a very brief tour of Daman.  We returned in 2/3 hours & soon were on the road driving down back home – discussing not the car (my 1st car), but the hospitality extended to us.

"Tata produces 1 or 2 cars out of 10K that is good" - well, I have only to say that statistically I was not aware of this.
