How to drive up a slope

This is mainly because you are new to driving.  Soon you will overcome such problems.  In the meantime, whenever required, you can use handbrakes.

 

I suggest if you can go through the discussions in this thread (2 pages) - you will definitely benefit therefrom.

New to driving, I'm quite good on ordinary roads. But I'm baffled when I drive uphill/slope.Everytime I face a slope, I try to balance the clutch in 1st gear (what my instructor calls the clutch balancing point- a point after which you feel a shiver in the clutch pedal) and then release the brakes to let the car move.But most of the time the engine turns off. So what I do is start the car and give a lot of throttle feed (with the clutch on hold) and move the vehicle. Its quite difficult because in heavy traffic, there are chances of hitting the vehicle in front if you push the throttle too hard.

Itoo have the problem but on a clear road i like to hear the sound the wheels makeLaughing  when they start i'll also try the next time i'm in such a situations.

Hi All,

This thread seems to be really nice..I am also new to driving and have this same issue.I have met few incidents where my car started going downwards even if there is a slight slope on  road. I got nervous for the first time but after reading post on this forum I started using the simple way of handbrakes now I would like to learn the second trick but the problem is that by the time I removed my leg from brake and press accelerator to move my car it starts going downwards and I have just escaped from thse incidents.

Need your help in better understanding the second trick if this can be explianed a bit in simple words so that I can try and execute it.Smile

The easiest way to practice finding the 'balancing point of the clutch' of your car is on a straight road. Stop the car and remove your right foot from the brake. Without pressing the accelerator, slowly release the clutch with your left foot. The point where the car starts rolling forward without pressing the accelerator is the Balancing point.

Once you master finding the balancing point, driving uphill a slope is much easier. Stop the car on the uphill. Find the tentative balancing point by releasing the clutch with your left foot. Remove your right foot off the brake and move it to the accelerator. Synchronise releasing the remaining clutch and pressing the accelerator. I hope this helps.

i think using hand brake method is not gud ,after car moves minimum of 1metre forwards we try to remove hand brake which means car has moved forwards with hand brake which causes damage to car?????(is it true or i dint understand u people)...........plese explain in detail balancing point of clutch(if u see 2nd point of mr.ninad if we remove right foot from car it rolls down immediately?????how come it works)please reply fast.....

please reply yaar...............also 1 more doubt while using brake,is it necessary to use clutch???i use clutch every time while i brake.....but i wont use clutch while i use hand brake.........please reply al;l my queries........waiting for ur reply.

Sandy, go to your service station and ask them to adjust your clutch play (Make it very short) it would help you in driving on incline.

I am thinking just to take care of 1 at a time is a problem in itself. And the tought of taking care of 2 at a time!!! Reminds me of the SPRITE ad!! (lighter vein comment)

I think in diffcult city traffic this would be tricky no doubt. I have never tried. But if the brake paddle was designed like the way the accelerators are designed then this approach would have become little more easier to practise. Safer would be to try this on clear roads before trying in normal conditions.

If mastering this technique requires too much skill might as well graduate to a AT version of the car!! I guess the thrill of trying such an approach to driving would be there though.
