How to drive up a slope

Hi Guyz!

I posted this query long back...now I have learnt quite a lot in driving... I started off with the handbrake, now, I have moved to the second one...hope I try out the thrid one also...

The same doubt has been bothering me since I bought a new car in the last month. Thanks for your question and to the tips through the replies. I will practice all the three ways in non- traffic roads and will come back to yoy. Thank you.

Congratulations on having won the contest of driving on the slope - Actually, mastering the second step is good to go - Having done even the third step on quite a few occasions, I still resort to the second step for msot of the times and very rarely the third one.

i tried using Handbrake and forgot to release it ... causing bad odour of rubber burning coz of handbrakes liner and then had to drop the handbrake and tried balancing it with toe and heel trick.

I also face the problem while driving on slope.Some times the engine stops and it becomes difficult to start again as car starts moving down .Kindly suggest me what to do.

Rajeev engage handbrake when you stop on a slope.When restarting engage 1st gear and release clutch and you will notice the car straining forward- now slowly release the handbrake.You wil never  again stall your engine.
Make sure to practice this a few times on a deserted road.

I am really happy with the info in this thread. This is one are where I am scared to drive, but with these tips I guess I will be able to manage. Have already managed on some bridges etc

Even I am new to driving and facing the same problem. I live in bangalore and there is always a bumper-to-bumper traffic in the city during peak hours. Sometimes I had to stop in slopes and the vehicle just behind me is too close to my car. I tried to use the clutch balancing technique but I'm not 100% succeeding,.. sometimes my car rolls back and I get scoldings from the person who is behind me. Can anyone help me overcome such situations?
