Hi,

I have recently shifted to Bangalore from Pune and have got the NOC for both my bike and car from Pune RTO. I intend to stay in Bangalore for around 2 years. Now, from the discussions on this forum, it seems that I could have just driven my car and bike in bangalore by paying the road tax and the NOC was not needed. What are my options now ? Can I return the NOC and get the stamp removed from my RC or do I have to change my number to a KA registration ?

Hi,

I don't know which discussion you are rederring to. But in your situation, you have done a great job by taking NOCs for both of your vehicles. Now, you go ahead and  register both in Bangalore. Two years is long time and merely paying road-tax won't do, re-registration in the new state is mandatory. If your vehicles aren't very old then it's also recommended that you apply for refund of road-tax in Pune RTO.

So, is this my only option ? Suppose I do move out of the city in a year, do I still have to submit my NOC here ? The Pune RTO has written on my RC that an NOC has been issued for Bangalore. How do I get them to remove that ?

Law says, you can stay in any state other than the one in which you have registered a car for less than one year without any problem. But you might find it hard to convince the same to the cops. My suggestion would be you talk to some RTO agent in Bangalore to avoid any inconvenience.

Thanks Mr. Sharma. I'll be contacting an agent soon. Seems to be the only solution

As your plan is short i.e 2 yrs, I dont think its worth going for a re-registration for your car. Anyway its my perception, as refund from GOVT is a nightmare. who does the followup. who will bear the agent and RTO costs?

You will need to be careful in case of bike and re-registration is advisable.

Ah well ! I'm lazy and still haven't got my vehicles re-registered. The NOC is still valid though. I want to know what happens when the NOC validity expires. Will that automatically mean that the NOC is cancelled or will my registration in the original authority will also be in a jeopardy ?

Yes, Once your NOC expires, it is as if nothing happened with respect to your re-registration. You have to again start from NOC for re-registration.

I have taken NOC from AP and it is not mentioned for which state the NOC have been issues. Regarding refunds, I was told that even if the car is less than one year old the refund amount is hardly 8% of the taxes paid. When does NOC expire? What are the consequencies if someone does not re register within the stipulated time and the NOC gets expired. Does the NOC needs to be reapplied?

I think after a vehicle is re-registered in another state by paying the applicable tax there, life-tax paid earlier in another state is refunded on pro-rata basis (not merely 8%).

NOC is normally valid for a period of 1 year.  It expires if the vehicle is not registered in the new state within the validity time.  On expiry, it can be issued afresh / renewed - you need to apply/request for it.
