I vote for Santro anyday. Wagon-R may have some advantages in city, namely, better ride comfort and better fuel economy. But Santro is a superior highway car and handles much better at high speeds. Santro corners superbly (better than many sedans), can cut lanes at full speed, and remains very stable.

I own an old Santro (2000 model, 1 lit engine) and you can see this car's performance at 140+ speeds in my Youtube videos:

My car has alloy wheels (5" wide, as compared to 4" stock steel rims) and tubeless S322 tyres at 35 psi. It runs on Speed 97, which gives it slightly better pickup and mileage (about 13 km/lit; not bad, considering my high speeds). I have to say that I generally overtake Wagon R's easily, because Wagon R drivers do not seem to have the confidence to maintain very high speeds.

Hi Karan,

I agree with you that both cars are close to each other as far as specs are concerned. The Santro has the following strengths:

1. Wider stock tyres (155 mm width. Wagon R Vxi has tyres of the same width, but Lxi comes with 145 mm tyres).

2. Stiff rear suspension gives Santro a bouncy ride on bad roads, but also helps its highway handling on good roads (less body roll, better cornering and lane cutting).

3. Santro's hydraulic power steering is superbly accurate and gives the car great controllability at high speeds. Wagon R's electronic PS reportedly does not inspire the same confidence.

4. Santro Xing develops higher torque at a lower rpm than Wagon R, giving the Santro a definite advantage in both city and highway.

5. Lower turning radius of Santro (4.4 m) gives it higher maneverability in city.

All in all, in my opinion (briefly)... WagonR (vis-a-vis Santro) is slightly more spacious & comfortable, has better ride-quality (especially the rear seat) & gives marginally better mileage.

Santro has better road-grip & is more planted to roads at high-speed/highway driving, and is better looking too

I would recommend WagonR if the usage is restricted to city driving with occasional long drives/trips (highway) - else, for more of long/highway drives, Santro is better; rather safer, I would say.

Yes, I understand.  The figures/scores sound more or less in line with the general perception.  But has nothing to do with the sales, I suppose, as i10 doesn't sell ahead of the other 2 (for price consideration).

Not sure, as indicated before (I suppose).  However, I feel WagonR still sells more than i10 for 'price consideration' (though i10 is a better car).

Anyway! there's no point in reviving the thread otherwise.
