Well, I'd take that with a grain of salt. At least until I get a 2nd and 3rd opinion.
What kind of noise is it? Has the cooling changed? By how much? Does noise come under specific conditions, does it have any sort of pattern to it - like it comes after so-and-so time of driving, etc.?
Show it to a local AC shop - probably it needs a gas and lubricant refill.
