Sridhar is right here, if you're ready to spend upto 8.5 lakhs on road i think SX4 diesel is the best. Etios has adopted some cheap cost cutting measures and therefore except its Toyota engine nothing is better than SX4.
but i've one more suggestion, within 8.5 lakhs on road you'll get Maruti's factory fitted SX4 CNG as well, after fitting CNG kit it has still good boot space and owners are happy about CNG SX4. it's company fitted and since CNG is easily available in Delhi/NCR you can enjoy the cheapest fuel. If diesel price is de-regulated, we don't know it will cost how much. i'm using a CNG Santro and there is no extra maintenance cost except that you've to go for periodical maintenance in time.
So my suggestion is to choose between SX4 CNG and SX4 diesel after considering pros and cons of both and after discussions with friends and relatives (who are going to commute in it every day) and getting further inputs from carwale members.
