Hi All,

I wish to buy a second hand car, which would be used mainly in Delhi NCR. I also want to run the car on CNG.

But is very confused as on one hand I want maintenace to be low and on the other it must not make hole in my pocket at the time of purchase.  Style is always an important factor for me.

My budget is not exceeding 1.5 lacs (including CNG fittment).

Astra - An amazing car, with the most appealing looks I ever saw on road. Will get in my range

Honda City - Awesome performance, low maitnance, but costs higher.

Accent - Always a decent car but slight outward from the above two. Cost...no idea

Esteem - Every one's choice but not my cup of tea, still have lowest maintenace cost.

Cielo - Elephant, as I came to know, easy to buy (cheaper of them all) but very very hard to maintain.

Plzz help me...!!

Anticipating an early response.

Rohit

Rohit,

Your budget can't exceed 1.5 lakh, I am considering your maintenance affordabiity too accordingly.

1. Astra? Fantastic car but one of the most expensive cars to own and maintain. If you find one with absolute low mileage then fine otherwise don't even think about it. Corsa might be a cheaper option.

2. Honda City? Forget a Honda City in this budget. Even if you find one anyhow, it won't be anything more than piece of junk.

3. Accent? Same here. You will find very old ones only, the maintenance will keep on bothering you.

4. Esteem? Nice economic car but you have already ruled it out.

5. Cielo? Very good car, especially at the price you will get it today. You can easily find a CNG Cielo for less than 80,000 rupees. Maintenance is frequent but maintenance cost is very low due to cheap spares availability.

I will order the cars as per your suitability as Cielo, Esteem, Astra.

My personal opinion is, you try a small car for a while and sell it off when you can afford a big one. A Palio would bring you style, performance, comfort for a very affordable price.

hi ROhit.... well i thought i wont ask u the question. "y not an Esteem"........... but sorry ... i guess i shud be asking u this question...an Esteem wud be a gr8 option !!!!! infact all other cars are/were more expensive than the Esteem...also the maintainence cost of all these cars is relatively more than the Esteem.... but the point is that u can get a relatively "Newer" Esteem for the same price .... so y go for more older cars.... Also ..all other cars in this bugdet except the Esteem wud be USE n THROW...... cuz if u're getting a CNG kit installed ...then ur car budget cannot be more than 1.10 k. So think abt how long u want to keep a car...... ders no point of nurturing an old 2nd/3rd hand car and then not keeping it for long...(or maybe notr being "able" to keep it for long) Banwari Sirs idea is nice....go for a smaller car..Sumthin lik the Palio is Stylish n BIG on space too....

Thanks a ton Banwari and Karan for the quick response.  Infact your such an early and technical response is enough to trust you guys.

Carwale.com people are really doing a nice job......cheers and keep it up !!

Well with regard to my query...I dont have any problem in Palio as its one of the stylish small car around but wht I came to know that its maintenance is as equal as any big car, plus after CNG fittment there will be no space in the boot....what I think must be taken into consideration.  Tell you frankly, my one of the motive to buy a big car is to secure some boot space after CNG fittment.

Cielo is no doubt a great car but since its value is decreasing day by day, its not looked through good eyes these days. And this is sure that it will be a waste after an year or so.

Do I have any other option other than those discussed above?

Well I have also read some hick ups in CNG fittment when done in Opel Corsa.  Suggest in that also as to performance of CNG fittment in various discussed or suggested models by you.

Thanks

yes..the CNG retrofitment is not that succesfful in case of the Corsa... but u were never considering the COrsa...or wer u ??...well in any case...dnt consider CNG retrofitment if u plan to go 4 d Corsa..... well...n yes..The HOnda City, the Accent and the Esteem...they r all very succesfull on LPG/CNG.....so it'll be a good idea to go 4 any of these...try stretching ur budget if u can..... because HOnda City n Accent mite NOt be an option in this budget... again u're left wid the Esteem.....

i dunno abt the CNg options wid these 2 cars...actually both these cars havent been a SUCCESS....so ofcourse not many r seen on roads..... n out of the few which r seen on roads.... a fraction of them must be running on CNG....... thats y its always recommended to go 4 CNG in popular cars...so that its easy to solve problems too...
