Optra Magnum Mileage

Not sure about that-but unlikely that it would detect the quality of  oil-it would be on the total km's run-as its nearing first service at 1000kms(is that correct according to the manual)?

The manual merely says if u get the 'change oil soon' warning, change oil / take  the car to service stn - it does not specify either way i.e. if it can be due to setting of km or quality of oil. Yes, my car is 850 km now, approaching 1000 km, but the warning started coming at 600 km. Anyways, I have decided to not take it for early servicing - I will wait till due date of servicing(1 mnth) /1000 km is reached.

Have a look at the temp gauge while driving and also the amount of smoke(if any in the first place) coming from out from the exhaust-these will be early indicators for oil related problems if any-the caution in the manual might well be for the 'warning' coming on and staying on.
