Yes they are. You will have to run your finger, may be your smallest finger at the edges properly as the curves on front windsheild are quite different than side glasses.

Hi

I have bought a used alto car. The 1st owner of the car claimed that the windhshield has a llumar sunfilm on it. Since the guy was supposedly from a reputed MNC and looked too decent, I did not bother to cross check whether the sun film on the windshield is present. Based on this I negotiated for a marginally higher price for the sake of the windshield sun film.

But now after having driven for quite a few days, I doubt whether the sunfilm really exists on the windshield. I checked the inner corners of the windshield. But could not find any edge of the sunfilm, just like how I could find the edges of the side sun films.

Kindly help me out in this regard. I would like to know, how to exactly identify the presence of a windshield sunfilm.

Regards

Abdur

Ideally, you should not have paid 1k more for any sunfilm

Others have helped you to find out about the sunfilm. If you still fail in finding it out, just take it to an accessory shop and they will do it for you.

One way is to use a polarized sun glasses... if you wear the glasses you clearly see a different kind of shading/lines (something of that sort) while you look through the glass. If nothing is observerd then definitely there is no sunfilm

Another way is, the smoothness of sunfilm and smoothness of windshield are different... so try touching the windshield from outside and then from inside. If the feel is same there is no sunfilm and if feeling is different then its there.

Another way, water or colin, the way it spreads on glass is again different from how it spreads on sun film. You can try this as well.

These are all my personal observations and not any standard techinque. If anyone knows about any standard technique then please do share.

Last thing would be to go to any accessory shop and ask. Am sure they would be able to help.

Hi SolitaireKing

I tried checking out the smoothness of the side sun film and the windshield(from inside), it was very much apparent from the difference in smoothness that their is no sunfilm. However I did not get time to check out in an accessories shop, since I was busy in the weekend. I am 98% sure that their is no sunfilm. But still I would want to be 100% sure before I blame some one else that I have been cheated. So will have to go to an accessory shop asap.

Hi live2drive

Yeah I shudn have paid the extra amount for a sunfilm. Actually I negotiated for an extra 3K for the sunfilm, since I believe that a Llumar 70% VLT sunfilm would cost me 5K plus. So I negotiated for an extra 3K for the sunfilm, just based on the first owners word. He seemed to be a real nice guy. Thats the reason why I want to establish it 100% that there is no sunfilm before I start to blame. I am totally out of time, aint getting a chance to drop in at an accessory shop.

Send a pic of the interiors of your windshield (specifically the edges). This will help us indentify.

Any sunfilm, though how light it may be, can be differentiated from a normal windshield. To put it in simple methods, you can park your alto next to another alto without sunfilm and observe the difference. Also, there will be a watermark on the film carrying the brand name and it will be visible. If that is not present, then the film is duplicate or there isnt any on the windshield.

EDIT: The alto comes with two kinds of windshields. One is clear and the other is tinted. I dont know what different the tinted one makes, but that is 1k rupees costlier than the clear glass.

Hi Sankalp

Happen to come across lot of your useful threads / posts. I have seen that you are put up at bangalore. I would like to get in touch with you so as to know good accessory shops in blore(I dont want to flood carwale with not too essential things). Since I am a newbie here, I cant message you. Can you message me your contact number or mail ID. I have mentioned both my mail ID and mob number in the contact details of carwale, but dont know in which link is the profile info displayed.
