I have a Ritz petrol which is a bit under 3 months old - 1500 on the odo. As of now I get a mileage of around 11kmpl in Bangalore city. Wanted to check if FE will improve after second service (6months or 5000km). Is there anything specific I need to ask the Maruti guys to do to improve the FE after second servicing? They already told me that noa djustemnts to tuning are done in K series engine as everything is automatic.

You are getting fair mileage for the condition of bangalore traffic. Also, the first two free services are just inspections. You can ask them to clean the air filter, which is usually done. Change can be observed after the first oil change. Maybe you can expect 1-2kmpl higher FE. Do not worry as I too know the current bangalore traffic and can say it is the worst. So FE is generally lower.

It depends on whether the engine oil (and oil filter) is changed. If not then you won't find any significant change in mileage.

Do I need to ask them to do the engine oil and oil filter change? Generally, when is it changed? Second service is due after 6 months/5000km. I will probably complete only max 4000km in 6 months. Can I still ask them to change this if it is not done in general and will this have a significant impact on the mileage?

Oil change schedule is given in the user manual - though there is no harm in changing it earlier than what is mentioned. Get the oil changed by all means, though the service centre guys will try to talk you out of it, since labour for it cannot be charged. However expect to pay for the oil and oil filter.

Do you suggest I do an engine oil top up or a full replacement? Any idea how much full oil replacement and filter change will cost?

You can voluntarily insist for an oil change. Cost will come to around 1k. Three litres of semi-synthetic oil and oil filter costing around 250.

I am going on a drive to Bandipur 1st week of Feb in my car. Anything I need to do in particular being setting off on a long drive? Have heard that filling air slight above the optimum pressure halps improve mileage? The indicated tyre pressure for my Ritz is 33psi. Should I fill it to 35psi before going for the drive? Any other checks I need to do or get done before and after the drive?

for safety purpose maintain the manufacturer recomended air pressure for better grip and stability. Especially on long rides where you tend to ride at higher speeds. In routine use conditions like city driving, then its ok.

Keep a filled 2 litre water bottle for radiator top up incase. Keep a very good fully charged emergency lamp with you. Ensure the stepney and required tools are easily reachable. Check all the fluid levels - brake oil, coolent reservoir and donot forget to fill up the windscreen washer fluid.

all the best and drive safe.

Thanks a lot Arun. For the radiator topup, can we do it ourselves. How do I know when to top uo the radiator and how do I top it up - meaning can I unscrew the radiator cap myself and fit it back. I have a Ritz petrol car
