Guys please decide between swift vxi and i20 magna. Both are costing me roughly the same on road.

Advantages of swift:
1. Good Mileage
2. Better ride.

Advantages of i20:
1. Good interiors and more spacious
2. Better design.

Is the differential in mileage and ride so better in swift that I overlook a more premium hatchback.

Regards

yess, there is a good difference in mileage of both the cars, the k series engine is very fuel efficient.many people owing i20 have been reporting poor mileage(around 10 kmpl) which is not the case with swift.even the 2nd gear in i20 is quite sluggish and does not give a peppy feel in driving the car which the swift has.but the i20 is much better than swift in comparison to features, nice interiors and spacious, and i am not sure but i think that i20 magna has ACC,but the swift has manual AC.

take a TD of the cars and then decide

good luckSmile

@adit.1984 Given ever growing list of cars between 5-6lacs , every customer has confusion . i recently test-drove Swift ZXI and man what a car , the steering fluidity , body control , almost no body-roll , interior quality also vastly improved from previous gen swift . But if you are taller than 5'8 you may experince little inconvience , as ur left leg might touch the center console or the shin area of ur leg may touch the underdash . i'm 5'8 and experienced the latter problem . but still it depends on body build . excellent mileage city 13kmpl highway 16-17 quarranteed .

Now coming to i20 , it has loads of space , good low speed ride quality , but soft suspension ruins everything , humoungus body roll , ultra light steerring with almost no feedback , above 80kmph ur on ur own .low mileage 11 kmph overall (Cousin owns i20)

So if you need a  car that makes you  go at mad speeds around curves , ghats ,a totally fun to drive car both in city and highway then swift vxi , or if you a bit more spacious car than i20 for sure .

IMO Swift wins over i20 any day .

Even I would recomend Swift over i20. Almost in all parameters Swift is marginally ahead of the i20 except for the looks. I20 is a much better looking car than Swift. However be it power, performace, Mileage Swift is marginally better than the i20 and all this combined make it a much better car to drive than the i20. What i20 has better than swift is the space. It seems pretty huge from inside. the cabin as well as boot space is pretty big. However, given its suspension and lower-than-siwft power, it will not be a very pleasant car to drive. better for the passengers may be.

The strongest point, apart from the fun part, of Swift is its VFM quotient. It costs a little less than i20, would give you better far better FE and the maintainance too would be significantly lower. All that makes Swift a much better package overall.

For petrol, Maruti engine is anyday better. If you are going for diesel, there is nothing wrong with i20 (though some feel Maruti's Fiat engine is better there also)

Hi
I thing Hyundai i20 Magna is best for u. because is a so stylish and impreesive car. Hyundai i20 looks for better than its competitor's Cars. Also the interior layout of i20 is modern and stylish. overall Hyundai i20 is a nice car in small car category .

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the prompt replies.

I've ruled out i20 petrol based on everyones feedback and right when I was about to book swift vxi, i got a call from a fiat dealer in Delhi. I told him I wasnt interested as I wanted to install my own ICE. Got a call from him sometime later saying if I would be interested in the 2011 punto diesel active model (which doesnt have the entertainment system).  He made an offer which was very close to the swift vxi.  Although my usage is not going to be more than 1000kms for the next year or two but I am still confused.

Is it worth buying an old model and that too fiat punto at a slightly higher cost. Trade off's below:

Swift:
1. Well, its swift !

2. Better ride

3. Lack of boot and rear seat space

Punto:
1. Diesel Vehicle (big positive)

2. Fiat A.S.S and since its 2011 model, it will fetch a low re-sale

3. Also, some people complain that the handling at the intial speeds isnt that great.

What do you guys suggest. Help me decide.

Thanks a lot.

Cheers

Check how good is the after sales support of your Fiat (Tata?) dealer. Also, check if the ground clearance is OK for your road. I have heard some complaints about that on bad roads (not an issue if your roads are good).

If the above two are OK, Punto diesel is a good option. Especially if you are talking about 1000Km per month. 1000Km per month definitely justifies diesel, looking at the trend in petrol prices.

I guess Fiat engine has some turbo lag; I am not sure about it.

I'll be be based out of Delhi NCR, so no problem finding a decent dealer for A.S.S.

Guess, will go and TD the 2012 punto tomorrow and then decide. Is there any significant difference in driving terms between 2011 and 2012 models.

Thanks

i think the difference betwn the 2011 and 2012 model is basically features and ground clearance. Also, I remember reading that Fiat will be discontinuing its JV with tata and establishing its own dealership. I think this will be good for the Fiat except it will take some time for them to establish a good network. Ok for the cities.

Cost of maintaining a diesel will be more than petrol so if yoou are doing 1000 kms/Month or more then it ok. Also, I dont think you will lose much in resale if you retain the car for long or use for like 90 to 1 lakh + kms. Resale will be a factor only if you sell early. IMO, if the current trend exists for petrol prices, any diesel will have better resale than the swift petrol.

As far as the punto is concerned it is more sturdy than the swift and handling part is on par or better. Check the space. The only thing to consider is the ASC. Also, ensure the punto offered is not a rejected car due to some other problems. The dealer seems desperate. So take care.
