Hi!

The RTO (or the Govt of India) has launched 2 new sites. Vahan and Sarathi

Vahan is a national level database of all vehicles. However, I tried to search for my vehicle, but couldn't find it. Hopefully, the database is getting populated and the exercise is not yet complete.

Vahan can be accessed at https://vahan.nic.in/nrservices/faces/welcome.jsp

You can search for the details of your car here. Once updated, all hit-and-run drivers will hopefully be traced.

Sarathi contains information about licenses. You can also search for people based on their license numbers. I'm not sure how this search will be heplful, but other information about licenses and renewals, etc. are available.

Sarathi is accessible at https://sarathi.nic.in:8443/nrportal/sarathi/HomePage.jsp. You can fill an online for form for a Learner's License.

Cool, isn't it?

Yes Mahesh. A Wonderful initiative. Though it looks like the database is not complete yet, as I could neither find the details of my car nor my license on these sites.

I hope this will not be misused. I mean, I don't think the address and contact numbers should be available. Liable to be misused. Especially, female owners of two wheelers should be very wary.

I tried this a while back on Delhi RTO website & could see my license details easily but didnt tried about the car. This will help to control corruption to a great extent. I guess this is the part of same tender that TCS got. Under this the traffic cops will have an instrument(about the size of walky-talky) & they will generate e-reciept of challan & we'll be able to pay our challans via net.
