Dear friends,

I have just got a new Toyota Etios(Petrol). Please provide some good tips for breaking in of the new car so that it is prepared for good and fuel efficient running in future.

First of all congratulations on your buy.

I would suggest you read the owners manual once as many a times as all the required instructions are generally mentioned in it. Apart from that do not rev the engine very hard, overload or put the engine through unwanted stress. Make sure you get the car serviced at regular intervals as mentioned in the owners manual. Use only genuine parts incase of any replacements. Make sure you fill petrol from good pumps. With these things you should be good to go IMO.

An accident is generally the result of a screw loose in the nut behind the steering wheel

1. Let a cold engine warm up before revving it.

2. No sudden accelaration or hard braking.

3. Dont ride in a high gear at a low speed or a low gear at a high speed. The engine must be made to run at varying speeds at a gradual manner.

4. Check for Oil level frequently until the first oil change. If the oil has turned dark or level is low, immediately get it inspected.

5. Check other fluids too. Being a new vehicle, any leaks can be detected and rectified immediately rather than running out of brakes or overheating the engine.

6. Keep a note on engine temperature. If its unusually high, do not drive the vehicle.

Vehicle specific points are provided by the manufacturer. Do follow it even if it contradicts what is given here.
