Hi, Since few weeks i am able to hear a grinding sound when i brake my car. I observed tht if i brake light then sound isnt audible but when as i brake harder the grinding sound increases. Tht sound is very irritating and makes me uncomfortable i have serviced my car from HASS just 2 months ago i m planning to do wheel alignment n check . Please suggest what should i do for the grinding sound and what could be the reason . Thanks .

How old is the car? Is the sound present even when the brakes are cold or comes only after usage? There could be many reasons. If the car is quite old, then there is a possibility of the discs getting warped. Only an inspection can reveal the exact cause.

Thanks for the immediate reply. The car is 4 years old n driven 23k. This grinding is audible everytime i apply brakes. Also the car vibrates while braking. During servicing i had informed the service guy abt this but he said tht he has inspected brakes amd they are fine. Please suggest.

If the vibrations are felt only when you apply the brakes, then there is a high probability that the disc has warped. I cant think of any other possibility currently. Due to non uniform wear of the discs, the thickness of the disc will vary from place to place and hence you will get a vibration. Get the discs examined.

the service guy cannot ignore it if it is evident like you say. Send an email to the official  website refering the service date and the problem you continue to face. Give a call to the regional office

I had a grinding sound in my old santro (left rear wheel only) when braking and was attributed to brake cylinder. But no vibrations in my case. Get this checked asap or it could cause sudden brake failure or more damage. All the best.

I get similar sound in my Viva front brakes, when i break while front wheels are over pot holes or smal humps...on flat surfaces such sound does not come....i earlier doubted it could be due to ABS, but now i think i should get it checked...

Hi All,

Yesterday went to HASS and gave them the car. The service guy informed me that the Linear Kit has ruptured and also there is some brake fuid leakage.
So the linear kit and the rear brake cylinder were faulty. He metioned that this can happen due to wear and tear.

Got all this rectified finally. Total cost - 3758/- which included both the rear brake cylinders changed , drum machining , linear kit , brake oil and labour charges.

Now when i brake hard or brake light there is no grinding sound. So all is fine.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

Happy New Year to all member of Carwale.
