My friend wants to buy new diesel car in the range of 10 lacs on road . Right now he is driving Innova which is near to complete 3lacs kms within 5 years . Other one he was having - Spark . He sold it after driving more than 1 lac kms within 3 years . It just shows the usage . Also all his cars had / have been abused a lot during their life .

He is not sure which one to buy now . He is not interested to buy Vento , Rapid , SX4 & Verna . His prime concern - High FE & Low ASS cost .

Need your valuable suggestions.

The word abuse is synonymous with TATA cars. Look at all the cabs and the abuse they are put through. Having said that FIAT is not behind either (probably thats why they partnered with TATA for sales and service). The built quality of the linea is very good. Sunny is still yet to prove itself. I would suggest the manza or the linea. Ask your friend to take a test drive and then decide

Maintenance on TATA and FIAT cars is not high. Its very competitive. The problem is with the people providing the maintenance. If the maintenance was high there would not have been so many indicas on the road.

Thanks Centaur & Karthik ,

In fact he had finalised Manza ( top model ) but now confused after launch of Sunny diesel . I have suggested him Linea & he likes it very much . Only concern is - FIAT image .

He had Tata Sieara , Indica , Indigo so he is very well aware of Tata . But after driving Innova & Spark , his perceptions & expectations are changed. These two cars are trouble free & he expects the same from new one also .

Vento was tested & liked but at Rs 11.46 lacs on road made it unviable . Other friend has Octovia & his poor experience with dealer makes Rapid out of competition . He doesn't like Hyundai .

Prices on road -

Manza - Rs 834000/-  ( Elan )

Sunny - Rs 913488/    ( XL )

Linea  - Rs 933779/    ( Emotion Pk ).

Today again we are going to TD all .

By the way any news of NEW LINEA coming ? I read it somewhere .

Ashish,

If you have a budget of 10 lakhs why look at Manza.

I am sure Sunny has the best FE figures & best space out of the three , also it has a proven engine 1.5 ltr DCI of Renault. It is almost maintenance free. My cousin owns a Logan 1.5ltr DCI & has run close to 1.5 lakh kms & he has not spent anything unusual apart form regular servicings.

Simply go for Sunny.

Good luck

@Manish - the diesel Sunny has just come out. I am baffled as to how you are so sure about it being maintenance free. Having the same engine does not mean same maintenance. It would be better if you could post some facts and figures to prove your point about the sunny

Decision making in this segment is also as difficult as taking decision in B+ Diesel Hatches.. Though Vento is not in picture, I would like to add here because of strong chasis and body, great engine having ideal combination of power and F.E., ultimate fit and finish etc...All these will match his perception and expectation. Though, VENTO is bit costly to own and maintanence, it will turn cheap in long run for such usages. The rigidity of the vehicle should play vital role in taking the decision.

Do you think moving from Innova to Manza is fair? I don't think so. The harrasement of correcting various niggles in TATA vehicle are a BIG issue for those whose vehicle runs like anything.

Second best option after VENTO will be Sunny, subject to the availability of ASS and Parts in his area.

All the best.

Sri,

Engine used in Sunny is already being used in Mahindra Verito, Nissan Micra, Renault Fluence & upcoming Renault Pulse. Since so many cars are using the same engine its cost of ownership will be low & Nissan & Ranault is definately eyeing big for India by bringing various products in india.

I agree as of now, the only minus point of Nissan sunny is its few service centres.

Manish my point here is that just because they share the same engine you cannot say that the maintenance cost will be less. Do you end up working on the engine within a few months? Ideal there is no maintenance on an engine as such apart from chaging the oil at regular intervals. Parts like brake pads, discs, headlight/tail light bulbs, any electricals/wires, clutch (comes in pretty late but much earlier than the engine) and smaller spares like these that would need maintenance. I hope you are getting what I am trying to say here.

EDIT - Ashish, the new Punto and Linea are slated to come out on Jan 3rd as per reports
