i did rest the ecu in two different ways 1. remove the ecu fuse. 2. just before switching to ignition press the throtttle full way for 30 seconds(since it has a throttle position sensor) nothing did help. the console shows some good figures but that is right after i fill up fuel after one bar on the fuel level indicator goes it starts dropping fast and consoles figures to go down. if i idle the car and say the fe on console shows 11. in 3 kinutes it drops to 6 or 7kmpl. the distance to empty suppose it shows 100kms to empty if left idling with ac on for say 5 minutes it will then show 93kms to empty.(when the car is at fully operating temperature)

as per your suggestion i checked my friends car his oil was golden brown was a bit runny but fuel smell was comparitivily less. his oil level to had dropped. i then lit a match stick and put it hear the tip of his tip stick with oil on it it did not catch fire. i did the same on my dipstick and it did catch fire and go out soon. to make sure my piston rings arent gone i checked the exhuast no smoke no oil deposits just when i rubbed my finger in the silencer got a bit of black sooth on my fingers.

hyundai says if the oil is getting darker that means the oil is doing its job of cleaning the engine. i guess what they said is right. regarding runny feel of it they say its normall if it was abnormal oil would be like chocolate milkshake if coolant mixture or deep black, thick and have burnt smell if its way past its change

i suggested ECU resett since cars now work with sensors that are controlled by the ecu.

If any problem in the sensors that regulate fuel flow it will detect in the scanner and you may also have some issues like jerking, low pickup etc. No issues here as far as I understand.

You have no issues with pickup, starting or during running. No black soot in your exhaust and the oil condition is normal. No issues with clutch not releasing, right? ECU reset done. Air filter and plugs checked and ok. I think your car is quite fine and should improve after the oil change. do insist on engine flush. I hope the HASS will do it and not just charge you for it.

One last thing I can think of; check to see your tyres are moving freely. Stop on slight incline and see if the car moves in neutral slowly (slight incline road). Apply brake and release, it should continue to move smoothly as before the brakes were applied. Try resetting ECU by disconnecting the battery. This procedure was recommended in the forums. Not sure about other ways.Smile

In the meantime, keep driving and do update occasionally when you check FE (use the auto cut off from same pump if possible).

Looking forward to anymore suggestions from owners/experts.Undecided

tyres move freely, there is no issue in pick up or clutch but when i drive the car and sometimes try to redline it. before reaching 6000rpms there is a jerk and a mis and then it becomes fine the redline is at 6800rpms. from driving petrol cars alot i never had a miss in any cars its only after the redine that fuel supply is cut.

at times the pickup at midrange seems sluggish and engine seems strained.

with regards to run in there is no run in required for the car but i followed what i do with all of my cas which is never maintaining a certain rpm for long time for the first 2000kms with a few mid ranges max 4000rpms in 1000kms and then redlines i did the same for other cars i own and never faced any issues with regards to the engine or fuel economy. on the other hand my friend has been redling it since he first day

just wanted to update.

at the 5000km marker i changed my oil to mobil1 0w40

the image below is the oil that came out from my engine, it was also thick. The service centre guys without checking the oil was saying there is no need to change the oil before 9000kms/1 year the oil is fine, i yelled at them and said it is my car i will can change parts earlier if i wish. i gave them my own oil since they do not stock synthetic and the mineral oil they use is 15w40 api-sl and then one i gave them is 0w40 api-sn

the oil was changed last week and difference felt was a smoother engine, and more rev happy.

went on a 400kms long drive, and got a fe of 17kmpl where as previously on the same route i got an fe of 11.3km/l. only thing done was oil and oil filter change, fuel filter change and clutch bleeding.

thank you guys

oil condition at 5000kms(added from my thread on another forum)

check if there is any black smoke which I guess indicates oil seal problem. Not sure about this. Do you have anyother problem like pickup loss, top speed loss etc. Since you have contact with other verna owners, check with them too.

My old 9 yr old santro had no oil loss after every 10k. sold her at 90k. Even the colour used to be quite clear. No oil loss in my current i20 crdi either. Checked at 9.6k.

Check with other owners. Hope to get some expert feedback here.

regarding the state of the oil at 5000km i uploaded the picture.

i do not see any smoke besides steam and water blowing out of the silencer in the mornings till the exhaust gets hot.

there is less acceleration in 3rd and 4th gears

i checked with others they to have some oil consumption

But it was unfortunate that even Hyundai ASS couldnt find out this problem.... guess u shud escalate with Hyundai treatening them to take to Consumer court for the poor oil quality (which came along with ur car)....

I guess HASS is just overlooking all the issues during the free service stage of the car.... had a bitter experience with my i20 during the second free service and it was rectified only wen the problem became bigger!!!

vignesh, as per my understanding oil can turn black sooner and degrade is gasoline gets into the oil, either by an engine running to rich or rings gone bust.

also the bumper quality is very poor.

first my car was being driven by a service advisor he banged a dog the dog walked away, the impact was at 45km/h and the bumper shattered.

after geting it replaced and carrying out my second service way before the interval.

they had a free alignment done.

next day steering was rather tight i took it back and argued with them that there is in an issue when they checked the alignment it was totally out.

on the same day while test driving by my driver, another dog came on the road and banged at 60km/h and this time the bumpe as well as retention locks broke of.

anyways i would like to know your bitter experience. it would be helpful for me and others
