Hello,

I have a 2002 petrol Hyundai Accent, The left axles have gone bad and making noise when sharp turns are taken.

Last year in July 2010 i had got the left axle replaced from Tapan Hyundai (Solan, HP) as it had broken down mid way to Shimla. Within 8 months of time the axle started making noise again and now it has gone to worse. As Hyundai offers only 6 months of guarantee they refused to replace it.

Now, the Hyundai guys themselves are saying do not go for a original axle as it is no different from what you get in open market. I'm in mumbai and i have tried many parts provider and none gives any kind of gurantee.

I had paid 10200 for the axle when i got it replaced from Hyundai. Now they are aksing for 10500 at Mumbai but do not gurantee more than 6 months. At the back of my mind i'm not feeling comfortable as i'm afraid that if even this axle goes bad it will be total waste of money. The axle available in the open market are for 3500 (the best one) with 3 months of gurantee.

Please advice, what should i do as i plan to keep this car and not sell it off.

Thankig you in advance.

Regards

- Yadvender Kanwar

Go the aftermarket way. These days hyundai after sales have taken a dive and they dont seem to improve. Hence, if you get a good quality part outside for a low price, you can get it repaired. In case things dont seem fine, you dont have to worry much because amount spent here is lesser. Btw, what is the exact problem? Is it the cv joint?

I called up Modern Auto Parts Distributing Company at malad, they are offering pair of axle (left and right) for 7800, the axle is Delphi made and has not gurantee. He is claiming that the same is used by Hyundai.

Can anyone throw some light on this for more clarity?

@Kanwar - go ahead and install these. No aftermarket item comes with warranty anyways. Get the job done by a local mechanic. Santro's axle had cost me some 1650 bucks, so accent's might not be that different - you're looking at 4-5k in total for both axles.

The axle i got is with 12 months or 25000 KMS warranty, i even got the rear shockers replaced, again Delphi made with warranty. The care is good as new now.

Total expenditure with both axle and rear shockers is 10900 + labour.
