Last question first: To the HU, the FM transmitter would be like just another FM station and will store its frequency in the list of presets (if it has that feature). So to go to other station all you need to do is press the preset button(s) or use up/down (or fwd/rev) buttons. The only problem I see here is that of the HU's antenna which is outside the car not being able to "see" the FM transmitter's signal which comes from inside the car - basically the car's metal body will tend to shield it.

FM transmitters come with battery or with external power jack. Not sure but 3 or 9V is the standard operating voltage - you should be able to battery operate it for quite some time before having to replace batteries, just remember to switch off the transmitter when not in use to conserve battery (and use alkaline batteries for even greater life).

You can keep the transmitter wherever convenient - just make sure that there is line of sight between the HU's antenna and the transmitter's antenna - basically both antennas should "see" each other...as I mentioned earlier, if this is not the case then the HU might not receive the transmitter's signal. Worse case you will need to physically connect a wire between the transmitter's antenna and the HU's antenna - make sure that the wire is insulated so that it does not touch the chassis at any time. Of course the ends that connect to the antennas need to be stripped!

EP-to-EP cable is standard - it has the standard 3.5mm connector at both ends.

Great! And thanks to Rohit for his idea!

@Vikas - Please share more details for the benefit of others, like:

1. Make and model of the FM transmitter.

2. Where do you connect the pen drive? Do you have a USB player, or is it part of the FM transmitter?

3. If USB player is separate, how did you connect it to the FM transmitter? Using the regular headphone jack ?

4. How do you power the FM transmitter / USB player? Battery or cig charger socket?

5. Did you have to do any internal connection to the antenna?

6. Is it comforatable to change the music tracks of pendrive while driving?

Well make and model is written as iNext. Not sure if its of any standard company.

Its connected to 12V charger slot on my dashboard. comes with a remote with all features of a MP3 player. so I can skip a song and folder on my USB drive.

It has USB , SD and Aux slot. I connected my USB drive to it and just tune it to one of my unused FM frequency and here it is! So simple and cost effective.

Thanks again Rohit.

You got a FM transmitter with USB, SD and AUX slots built in. And with remote and cig lighter charger. All for Rs.200? Amazing!!!

The Nokia cig lighter moblile charger alone costs around Rs.300.
