Hi folks,

I had purchased a Ritz Zxi about an year back. Along with it I had
received two car keys with remote lock/unlock buttons on it. With one
of those key-rings was present a metal strip with some code/number on
it. The person at showroom had told us the some significance of that
number. Though I have both the car keys with me, I have unfortunately
lost that number strip somehow. And I don't know how important it was
and can be in case I lose one or both keys in future.

Would anyone be kind enough to tell me when and where that number can be
of use and what can I do to avoid issues in future now that I have
lost that code?

-Regards,
Akash

Akash need not worry about the tag/Metal strip. It is the indication of Key number. Please check the documents/Owners Mannual/Sales invoice of your car. It must be written some where in the documents, that came along with your new car.

Once you can retrive the number, please store it in safe place for further use. It is importan for

1) Identifying your car key from a bunch of car keys looking simillar. 2) In case you want to duplicate one of the keys then it is necessary for the Car company to know the original kar key number. 3) It is the unique identity of your keys. However do not bother for the tag it is just a number (may be 4 digits) and it has to be written on the car documents.

Update us for the finding

Thanks Amrut for your reply.

The problem is that I cannot identify any such number in those documents. In the owner manual they have filled the chassis and engine no. but have left the key no. box empty.

I have a feeling that the number is important only in case both the keys are lost and we need new ones from the company. If one is lost and other is present can we still get the key duplicated using the key present?

Hi Akash

Kindly walkup to the dealer who has sold you the car, ask him to retrieve your car file and you can find it there , I am sure all dealers will make a file with regards to the customer and vehicle details

All the best

Regards

Mathew

Its better to prepare and prevent than to repair and repent :)

Hi Akash,

Those numbers are related to Immobilizer digital secret code, it's embedded with each key and unique. I was told this information by maruti show room guys while taking delivery of my car .

This is maruti anti theft technology.
