I own a Accent GLE 2000 model car and I'm the second owner taking it's odo reading from 50k to 60k at present. I'm facing the problem of mileage seriously, during my past couple of Petrol fill I noticed my car's mileage have gone down drastically and I'm getting 6kmpl. Last week I changed the oil filter/ engine oil and soon I would go for a new air filter. I did not find any clutch slip or any jerking and I drove smoothly keeping this mileage issue in my mind always. Anybody can suggest as to why I'm getting a serious drop in mileage whereas I used to get 10kmpl in city. A Rs.1500/ petrol fill is giving me a mere 100km (<6) Please advise.

Change Air filter and endure tyre pressure. You should also have the injectors and throttle body cleaned. Ensure the quality of the fuel outlet.

So long as you dont have any power/pickup or clutch issues it should be ok.

Tried many Petrol pumps but no good. Hope the cleaning of injectors/throttle will make a change, any idea which air filter would be good? Heard about K&N no idea about any other.

Thanks Arun for your views ! Will give an update soon

i am not sure about K&N filters and impact on FE. You can check your existing air filter and get the same. Best if you can purchase from the HASS.

all the best.

How about the injector cleaning?  At 60k there is also the possibility of clutch plate wear.

60k and 11 years old - this combination calls for some care to ensure FE.

injector clean, tyre pressure, clutch plate check (do you have pickup problem, jerking?), spark plugs. DO a tank ful after the above details, check tyre pressure on alternate days till you cover about 50 - 100 kms in your initial driving style then lets see at the next tankful ( use the auto cutoff facility in the same coco pump).

also inform your usual driving conditions (traffic, highway etc). all the bestLaughing

I spoke to a mechanic and as per him there is no use in injector cleaning unless there is missing while driving. I don't see any missing or jerking -as you said - it's time to suspect clucth wear - yes it's an old car but there is no jerking or clutch play issue or slipping of gear etc now. The frequency of use is less say 50-60 km a week and in City traffic -but 30-50km/hr speed on an average.

Any car will give worse mileage if there are frequent short trips (say less than about 5 km between stops) and between two trips the gap is large. A cold engine especially will burn more fuel to bring up the engine to operating temperature. So usually once engine is up to operating temp. stopping for a small amount of time is not an issue, but if the halt is such that engine gets much colder than operating temp., again fuel consumption will me more just to bring up the temp.

I think its time you get the O2 sensor checked. Most possible that the engine is running a rich mixture due to no feedback from the O2.

IMO I guess you can do a higway run at steady sepeds between 80 to 90 KMPH. I know this sounds a bit costly option but will surely give a you a good figure & if the higway mileage is worst you need to get your car to A.S.S. Usually in bumper to bumper traffic yoy may not expect a good economy. Before taking car outside for a long drive make sure the tyres air pressure is maintained well.
