There is petrol leaking somewhere - open the bonnet and start the engine, the leakage will make itself apparent if it is in the engine bay. There could also be a leak in the pipes that go into the fuel pump and these are under the rear seat.

till the issue is resolved, be careful about naked flames when the engine is on. smoking, mobile usage etc should be avoided when you have this fuel smell. PLs rectify asap.

I had given to HASS but the Service Advisor turned up saying they could not find any issue which requires attention inspite of that they inspected the vehicle for 2 days. Apparently he agreed that there is petrol smell in car when he took a test ride but unable to fix it. He apologized and claimed he had checked all fuel lines, cannister, lines which flows into the engine etc - but did not find any fault. Wondering what to do now.

Thanks Nigel, I too feel that the smell have something to do with Fuel Filter - or cannister as these stuffs are under the rear seat - so any issues on this may give the smell of petrol inside cabin.

Now I'm noticing a slight increase in mileage than before from 6kmpl to 8kmpl and the smell have reduced. The service advisor told me that there were some slight blockage in the pump area and it was cleaned, but when I told him that I haven't replaced the fuel filter for the past 2-3 years - he plainly said that have nothing to do with the smell.

I'm thinking to give for another check up in a different HASS and see how it goes. Anyway the last HASS did not charge me anything but only Rs.96/- for two days check up Cool. Let me know whether your issue have got fixed and any reason why it was..
