it is always better to do alignment / balancing outside the ASC.

When I bought my used santro in 2006 at 35k on odo, the front tyres were almost bald. This was replaced as part of the deal and in 2010 at about 65 k run, the new ones were quite good (actually very good). However, I shifted the 2006 tyres to the rear since the old rear tyres were 2002 tyres(walls were cracked) and got new ones for the front (2010). I always did  the tyre work outside near my house (kodambakkam, Chennai) where they give 3 months free check up. I always insisted to the HASS that I will not pay if they did this in the service.

Till I sold my car in 2011 Oct, at 90K both the 2010 and 2006 tyres were quite new and even the outer edge threads were quite visible. Mine were bridgestones. I think both proper aligning and tyre quality are important for life of tyre.

It is also important to periodically check for tyre wear every week to detect any issue so that it can be rectified immediately and not after they go totally bald. Whatever the cause, the HASS/dealer will not take any responsibility and it is we who will have to shellout for the new tyres.

Check tyre pressure and wear every week or earlier to detect any issues.

Currently in Hosur, I am not sure about good tyre dealer to do aligning and balancing. I am depending on the HASS for my i20 and also tyres are apollo acelere. I am very un-comfortable.

I tend to agree with Arun. Even I felt that the service centres dont do the alignment/balancing properly.

It is like medical care. In olden days there was just one "doctor" who used to do everything which today is done by various specialists and super specialists. Similary, we had just one "workshop" which used to do all kinds of repair & maintenance for cars.

If we leave each service to the specialist they can do a better job. Probably engine/gearbox related work is best done in the company service centres. So we can compare like

General checkup - Physician

Engine/gear box - Brain & spinal cord (neuro/spine surgeon)

Accident - Ortho

Wheel alignment & balancing - Scanning centre (radiology)

Dent/scartches - Skin specialist

Accessories - Cosmetic/plastic surgeon

Oops - sorry for deviating away from the topic.

Hi,

I have my car back after repair (after the accident at front causing damage to condensor and front bumpers).I have noticed that the vibration is too high and seat was also shaking. So I took the car to another service station and asked to check the car.It is found that one side of the both front tyres got eaten up ( became flat on inner side of tyre). They told me problem with the brake pads and I replaced both front brake pads. The tyres were used only 15k to 20 K or less but I replaced the front tyres now with new ones.Alignment is pending as there was no time yesterday, today evening it wil be done.I spent almost 16000 Rs.

I was doubting on the service agency which repaired my car after the accident wtheter they have the responsibility to check the alignment after the accident or not.One thing I would mention is that I had  this problem prior to accident and I did not pay much attention becz of some other issues.Shall I ask the agency or they dont do it generally?

Speed guns can detect the speed but what can detect the accident?

Which car are you referring to? Is it the Elantra? Inner wear out of front tyre indicates that your car had an excessive total toe. Get an alignment done and check for the measurements. If it is the toe-out that is causing the problem, you can correct it easily. If not, then it is much difficult. Only alignment will help to know what the cause is.

Hi Sankalp,

You are right it's Elantra.I will ask them about the reason. After replacing the tyres and brakeshoes I felt the difference.Do you think the tyres which are removed due to wear can be used  again or I just throw them? What would be your suggestion.

Thanks,

Ravi

Hi All,

I got the alignment done for front wheels and they said no alignment for rear wheels.Still I have some sort of sound ( no vibration) on the front passenger side.So I got it checked with one more shop who said front bearings to be replaced. When I went to a mechanic for replacement,he told that the bearings are good and no need to replace them but he could not identify the exact reason why the sound is there from tyre.He found that the left rear tyre ( behind driver) is having more wear on inner side and the middle thread is sharper with some projections.

So I again went to another big service center ( not hyundai) and told my problem and asked them to identify as I was loosing interest to drive this car as this sound is particularly unbearable at some speeds. They checked the car and the following is the status.

Bearinngs--All are ok.,Front tyre alaignment -Already done.Front tyres--New,Front breakpads-New.

Rear tyres-adjustment by cutting the suspension which is costly and takes  half working day.

When the engine mounts were checked they are not in a good condition. So they will be replaced.

I did not understand exactly what they would do at the rear due to language problem ( only broken english).I am planning to give the car after 3 days as the engine mounts and transmission mounts will be available by that time.Planning to change the rear tyre break pads also, now they are 50% good.

Is it a common practice to do something at the rear tyres.

I drive 3000 km/month.So this break pads could I keep for some more time.

BTW: My new i10 in India is idle and we start it weekly. It is used 3000 km but now idle.Once in a month goes out for short trip ( 2km) and sleeps again. When I come back in June,it will be fully busy. When I read this thread,I am worried of the tyres. What should I do?

Hi i own an Accent if you ask me Hyundai service is the worst among all the manufactures. They also dont respond with the complaints made on their helpline.I will advice you to get your car checked at some another service station.

One of the recurring problem that I came across in my car was the noise that comes when I full turn my car on either side this problem was however solved by my maruti suzuki service station.

Hyundai is the most consistent & reliable manufacturer in India in terms of after sales service, no doubt about it.

They give the worst service, consistently from Kashmir to Kerala. You can rely on them for that

(This is not just my personal opinion, this is the input I got from many Carwale members and also my relatives & friends).
