Car Air conditioners have measurements in tons?

Can someone please tell me how are car ACs measured. In Tons as we do with houehold ACs? If yes what is the tonnage of i20, VW polo, VW Vento, Honda City and Verna ?

Good question. Tough I am not sure about the exact numbers, I guess car ACs use BTU as the unit for cooling. I mean like "x BTUs in y amount of time" or something like that.

Okay Rohit. Thanks. But these days some of the Hyundai guys are talking about their i20 ACs in terms of tons and claim to be having 1.2 ton AC. Thats why the question. Is there a link or a site where i can get some info. tried a lot of Google search. could not get anything comprehensive

Quite possible that they also use tons - because its easier for ordinary people to understand the cooling power (so to speak) of the ACs fitted in the cars...a good marketing tool, at the very least. That said, a 1.2 ton AC is used in a typical sized bedroom - a car cabin is much smaller, so a 1.2 ton AC for this might be overkill, but then again, a car AC has a lot more heat to get rid of as compared to a room (because of direct sunlight) so it may actually be justified.

IMo such info is not published as yet by car manufacturers...if you can get hold of a service manual, that may contain what terminology they use for the AC's cooling capacity.
