hi Guys,

Need serious help here. Need to buy a new car for my wife who is currently driving an Alto. Her daily usage is around 40 kms a day. considering the rising petrol costs, we are trying to figure out which car to buy. CNG option is definately cheaper but it kills the boot space and considering she would drive just 40 kms a day, would it be worth buying diesel car?

Kindly advise.

Thanks in advance

If cost is what you have in mind CNG would be better both for running cost as well as buying cost as Ritz would be lot more expensive than the other two cars.  the cost difference can take care of your running cost for atleast a year or two. Cool

40kms a day would mean 1200 kms a month. So a diesel is more better than CNG because diesel engines last longer and fetch a better resale too. With 1200 kms a month you can expect to recover the extra cost in roughly 3-4 years (considering the existing petrol-diesel price difference) or so which I think is decent enough

whatever you save on diesel is taken away by the car on maintanence so don't be in a dilema that you will be able to save something moreover diesel engine needs to be overhauled after 1 lakh kms.

better is purchase zen estilo and get conventional kit fitted from outside that ways you will save money and get performance from all angles. as far as resale is concerned maruti cars do have a higher resale.

estilo will be more spacious but slightly expensive to buy. Probably you will get good discounts. Check.

Sorry for replying to such an old post but could not stand the rubbish mentioned here.

If you are aware diesel engines are more durable than petrol ones. The reason is that in diesel engines pressure is used to ignite the fuel and this required the engine to be of heavy built. I have seen some Qualis diesels with over 2 lac on the odo and no engine overhauling done. Infact CNG engines go through more damage than diesel engines suring the same ownership period as CNG operates at a higher temperature than diesel and this causes the engine components to wear out fast.
