If you are concerned about FE, i10 is not a good choice. I have heard this consistently from many i10 users. Ritz has better mileage. It is upto you to prioritise between looks and FE.

Regarding FWD and RWD, most of the small cars have FWD (to avoid transmission loss etc since the engine is in the front) and larger cars have either of the two. I guess Tata Nano will have RWD since the engine is at the back.

Heavy vehicles (bus, trucks etc) are mostly RWD, I think there is some difference between "pulling from front" (as in FWD) and "pushing from behind" (as in RWD). Pushing is required for heavy vehicles, I dont know the exact technical explanation for that.

Hey

I am also planning to buy a car next month.

Have given a lot of thought.

I have a budjet of max 4.3 so going for Wagon R VXI.

For your budjet  you can get I10 sportz.

Infact Wagon R VXI packs all of the features that i10 sportz offers and still costs considerably less.

If safety is concern,  then Wagon R VXI with ABS and Air Bags  would fit your budjet.

However I10  have better Engine , Looks  and interior quality.

Fully loaded I10 with ABS and Air Bags woud cost you more.  IF you can increase your budjet go for I10 asta

If fuel costs is priority increase your budjet and go for any diesel car. No point in searching for petrol cars.

I decided to go for Wagon R only for  VFM it delivers. I am not bothered about looks , its practically what matters to me.

If I  had a bigger budjet, I would have chosen I10.

As far as I understand, the lowest spare & service cost is for Maruti, followed by Hyundi. If someone said Hyundai spares are expensive, I guess the comparison was made only with Maruti.

Its not that case in everything. If you check the i20 diesel spares they are more expensive than Maruti, Fiat or the VW. There is comparison on the net I had read long time back. It has the prices of most spares of all the hatches. I checked the spares of i20 diesel and was surprised to see many of them more expensive than others. Maruti does give cheap spares but VW and Fiat are not behind either.

Which of the following version of i 10 would be a better choice. i 10 magna kappa 1.2 or i 10 sportz kappa. The difference between the price is around 20k  for which we get additionally rear and door ajar warning and music player in i 10 sportz ...

Hi Dinesh:

I agree and support the view of Centaur.  In long run, many people have found that Sportz offers better value than Magna for only INR 20K extra due to may added features, even if you find them not very important and useful immediately.  You should check the BROCHURE very carefully for extra features, e.g., rear Defogger and washer, intermittent front wiper are good safety features during rainy days and you can't get them installed from outside.  Second, whenever, ICE is installed from outside, so many panels are opened, they always break some small plastic locking notches or some loose screw etc etc, which becomes cause of rattling later.  Third, when car is sold, second hand buyers prefer cars which have more features and are willing to pay extra than base models.  If you need remote for door lock/unlock or any other electronic, try to get it from dealer (for better warranty) as freebee than other things, which you can get from open market.

Recently, in an other thread of rohit b.d. about Santro, I was surprised to learn by many members that Santro Batteries last over 5 years without any problem, whereas many VFM batteries need changing every 2 years.  Quality spark plugs last for over 150,000 Km, whereas VFM SP is changed every 20,000 Km.  Hence, parts and spares have three components - Price and Life or frequency of change, and cost of installation (labour cost).  In next few years, with increasing labor cost for professionally trained mechanics, in many cases, labor cost will over take cost of spares.

Good luck.

In reckless auto accident, it is not important who is RIGHT but who is LEFT.

OK. I was refering to only small petrol cars. By the way, I am surprised to hear that VW spares are less expensive than i20. That was news to me (I can understand other brands like Fiat or Tata or Chevy) - I was under the impression that VW is one of the most expesive car to maintain among these brands.
