Whats the harm in sending an email? You dont lose money for it. ;)

I would suggest you better check the car once. The reason I am saying this is that you might want to ensure that you are not being sold a demo car and also ascertain the month of manufacturing through the VIN. If the car is like very old, dont go for it will be my suggestion. If it is 3-4 months old I would suggest you get a further thorough checkup of the car since being in the yard weather might have affected it. If after all this you do find it good enough then go for it or look for other options.

Imagine if this is the attitude at time of sale,  then god know about there A.S.S

Absolutely. I had a very similar experience with Hyundai dealer when I went to check i10 Sportz. They never got back to me with a test drive vehicle. So I went ahead with good old Maruti (my third car from Maruti).

Sridhar..I am afraid now. I am first time buyer with zero knowledge on cars. How will I verify vehicle. Am not sure they will allow to check vehicle by a mechanic and all for a new vehicle.

Whats there to be afraid? He cannot force you to buy the car right? You are the customer and so you are the king. In the worst case scenario you will have to buy the car without the discount. Ask the dealer to show you the car and note down the VIN. Also check the car tyres, the rubber on the accelerator/brake/clutch levers. The wear on these parts will speak volumes.

Hey Ashwin

Relax, I was also a first time buyer and didnt even know to drive when I first time went showroom. No one in my family had any car and I diddnt even had experience of buying a two wheeler.

The first thing I did was to learn the driving,  and once I got feeling of the car mechanics  I increased my knowledge with online CAR forums including this website.

I had booked my car with Maruti dealer and took everything in writing including the discounts and freebies.  This is the first step towards securing yourself.

Now comes to payment,  I planned to pay on delivery by DD , but due to personal reasons had to postpone it, but needed to pay in advance because discounts were appliable for limited time.

Before paying up full amount via cheque I demanded to see the car personally, took a friend with me to inspect.  Also noted down the Chasis nummber.  The car was fine and the Chasis number revealed that it was manufactured in same month so half work was done.

After submitting the cheque verified that invoice had same chasis number printed.

Took delivery of car after one week and before signing any papers inspected the car again and verified  chasis number again.

Just be cautious and take reciept of every payment you make and keep follwing up with SA to remind him .

go in for eon as it is a new car and you get more features compared to i10 or wagonr also check eon new models are available at less price ,considering as you are new driving, it 800cc will be good as of mostly in city ,i own eon era it gives me 18kmpl in city and on highway 25kmpl worst i got is 14kmpl,eon is 12 hp more than alto800cc so go in for eon just check new model offering more features in less price.on highway i have gone upto 120kmph it was stable at that speed. best of luck

EON new models are better in features. So ERA+is now getting features of old Magna. New models are not having discount so overall benefit is same.

Dlite+ which can be compared to alto lxi is at 3.48 OTR. Alto lxi after discount is 3.15. If hyndai offers around 15K discount on these new models, it will be VFM I think

since u have no problem with new or Second hand car the following are my suggestions.

  1. the new cars that come in ur stated budget are Tata Nano, Alto and Eon.
  2. for used car, u can try any thing like Alto, WagonR, Estillo, Santro and i10.
  3. Santro is better than Eon as Eon's engine is santro minus 1 cyl.

Tata nano is good city car having good engine, FE, GC, good AC. u can add the music system u like.

Alto 800 cc is near the end of its life cycle and so if a new emission norm is introduced, then it ll be out of prodn. so the K10 is better. the same that does duty in the new WR and Estillo.

A used Estillo ll have less price compared to a used WagonR.
