@ Zorro: Get a quote from the ASSC. If its too high, visit a good garage. Generally they match the factory finish and as your car is basic white, there should be no problem. They should remove the dent and repaint it in max to max 1k. DIY is good thought but i completely failed in it. The Spray Paint was a great mismatch and after some time it peeled off like a skin. Also the fumes/gases affected my throat badly. So i suggest you to get it done through professionals.

Hi giriratan,

Thanks for the info on the spray paint fumes, peeling etc. Did you first do a body filling compound, primer, and then spray paint, or just spray paint? I'm asking cause I intend to do this, and if it still peels off, then it's not worth the effort, and I'll go in for a professional job. Undecided

Cheers,

Zorro

Just spray paint cos the scratch was very small and on the plastic bumper. I have no courage to try my hand on the metal body...

Ok... Have collected as much info about how to paint a car scratch as possible... Just recording it here for my future reference as well as for others benefit... It's a post in progress, will edit it as and when I do something on this topic...

Detailed Videos (6 part) on how to DIY paint your car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVtCakrSigU

List of items you might need:

  1. 3M brand Emery paper ( grade 24, grade 80, grade 120 for the painting process and grade 1000 for minor scratches touch up)... Cost about Rs. 20 per sheet for the 1000 grade one
  2. Sheenlac brand LPS Grey NC Body filler - 1 tin of 500 g (minimum size) - cost around 200 Rs.
  3. Sefco or Bosny Primer Spray can (White colour in my case) - 200 Rs ? (Still have to get this)
  4. Sefco or Bosny Paint Spray can (White in my case) - Make sure Primer and paint are from same company - You will get these brands at any big hardware store where they sell Asian Paints etc...
  5. Adhesive and wax cleaner (Still have to get this...)
  6. Masking Tape
  7. Newspaper

Just view the video given above for a detailed info on how to go about this...

I will be taking detailed photos, and possibly videos this coming weekend on how I go through this process... Hope to post it online for the benefit of others...

Wish me luck!

Cheers,

Bharat

Hi,

Metal being exposed is a concern and would sonn start building rust. No need to get the whole door repainted. You can get that entire strip of door repainted. There would be a difference of 19/20 between shades, but very hard to notice.

I would not prefer DIY as if not done properly, bubble formation would result thus destroying the body from within while a nice paint stays on top of it. THIS HAPPENS A LOT IN MUMBAI DUE TO SALT PRESENT IN AIR.
