Booked the i20 era berry red crdi in July 25th . Company sent the wrong cars to the dealer – i10 first which dealer never ordered, then they sent the magna sleek silver. In meantime, manufacturer kept changing the specs of the Car (6 speed to 5 speed, berry red to maharaja red) so I got uncomfortable and told the dealer to cancel the Era order and I bought the sleek silver magna on 30.09.11 ( took delivery).

Lots of reviews about the i20 crdi already. Just to add what I think is new and my experience. The 6 speed is now 5 speed. reverse gear is same as first gear but you have to press a lever on the gear knob and then engage the reverse.

Done 150 kms so far. Loud dunk/thud sound sometimes from front shock (especially the left) when I go fast through deep potholes/ over speed brakers. No unusual noise on regular ruff roads. otherwise no rattles so far.

On rough roads, noisy and can feel the vibrations. Apollo tyres, probably this is the issue?  Engine clatter is evident but not annoying (I owned a 2002 used santro before). Horn sounds very dull but it seems to be audible outside.

Battery is exide which I am happy. My old santro’s Exide was dated 2006 and till 28th Sept 2011 when I sold it, had no battery issues.

Turbo is evident at above 2k rpm. Steering is super light at stop and start then after about 15kms speed, becomes slightly hard. It is still light but not dead. I have tried at 120km/hr, it is still the same. Is this a new adjustment since there are lots of complaints about the ‘dead’ steering at high speeds? The steering is not smooth though it is light. Have to get this checked at ASSC this weekend.

Clutch is long but very smooth. So is the gear.  Wonderful to drive at 2000 + rpm. Hit 120 km/hr witout noticing. Steering in the magna is quite chunky and soft with good grip. I am changing gears at 1500 rpm in general. Comments?

 ......to be continued

Hi Arun,

I had the same problem with front left shok when my vehicled is delivered.

Problem has been resolved by the service guy.

thanks sai for the info.

Congrats Shankar on your new car booking.

I thought I will give an update of my i20 crdi now at 1380kms. First service completed yesterday. Nice water wash and polish done. Steering hardness above 10kms speed slightly improved but it is not 'super light' or 'dead feeling' as some have commented in past posts. Probably the current models have this slightly harder steering for better control? Anyway, going to the ASSC tonite to clarify.

Left front shock (thunk) noise when going down speed breakers/into deep potholes at speed is still there but reduced. I am relieved that there is nothing broken so far.

Planning a hosur -chennai and back trip this month end. Hope to do a tank full FE test. Last two tests gave 18 kms (general driving below 2000 rpm) and 13 kms/LSurprised. This probably since I did a Hosur-chennai-hosur trip mostly above 2000 rpm and reaching upto 2.5k rpm (140 - 150 kms) or maybe wrong calculation. Have to test this this month end and will update.

For normal driving I have to maintain at 1500 rpm. at or above 2000 rpm is quite nice. shifting to 5th is at or above 70 kms speed. In my old santro, shifting to 5th was at 60 kms speed. I think the 6th gear would definately help the FE at speeds above 100kms. Missed this.

so far no steering or anyother rattle. Getting in and out of the car is an effort bcause it is lower than my old santro. But the road noise is quite audible. AC chills well even at 34deg C outside temp. Kept the AC setting in manual at about 17 deg C. Will update FE results.

MODS : can you pls update the heading for this thread? 1380 kms, first service through.

thanks all. Diesel costs 44.85 and petrol 71.28 / L. Still getting used to this change....Wink

Dear All,

Kindly clarify if it is ok to give my punctured tubeless tyre to any road side puncture shop? Is there any special technic for fixing tubless tyre punctures?

Pls advise ASAP since I need to get my punctured rear tyre fixed immediately.

thanks

I forgot to add that no charges for the first service since only water wash done. only Rs 100 charged for fixing the left rear tyre puncture. Today morning it was punctured again. Same tyre. Taking to the ASSC tonite.

Aurn, You do get Puncture kit for tubeless tyre . Any road side shop which has kit can certainly do a job.

1750 kms, less than one month old and I have spent Rs.9700. Not the cars fault though.

I hit the under side in the front, while going into a deep pot hole last week. Heard a "scrapping' sound. From my Santro experience, this was no big deal. But started to hear a rattling sound. Checked the under body and found that a plastic 'plate' was cut off near the left front wheel. No probs except this plastic part is part of the support panel in the i20 which is the base for the radiator, intercooler and what else I dont know.

Since the intercooler base was fixed to the torn part, it was shaking badly, I had to replace the support panel. Costs Rs. 7500 and since the ac compressor, radiator intercooler etc had to be removed and refitted, overall labor cost (including gas top up) came to Rs.9700.

Please be careful about the low ground clearance of the i20. Especially in the front. My past experience with a santro made me a bit careless here.

Now at 1870 kms, planning a trip to chennai tonite. Car runs well. Other than the road noise and slightly stiff steering at above 50kms speeds, the car is fine. No rattles anywhere especailly the steeringWink.

The guys at the ASSC re-set the trip meter so now have to start all over to check FE, grrrr!!. Topped up and hope for the best.

Best wishes to you all for the festivals ahead. Drive safe and take care of your car and others' cars also. We being carwaleans have a great responsibility to make our World a better and safe place to drive and live Smile.

Hey arun..!!

Can you please post here the spare parts price(like exterior i.e. front & rear bumper, headlamps assembly, tail lights & mechanical) of i20 here by getting them from ASSC. It would be of great help.

Thanks

i had asked for the spare parts list last time I was with the ASC. They said available but not updated, server problem blah blah. Will try again.

As of now I changed the support panel underneath (it broke when I hit the underside on a small rock) which supports the radiator, compressor etc. Part cost 7.5K, with labor total 9.7K.Surprised.

In other forum, someone wanted to install fog lamps in the magna which needed the entire front bumper to be changed. It was estimated at Rs. 6000.

will update if I get anymore details.

Currently at 9200 kms and planning for my second service by this month end. No issues so far. Hope the guys at the HASS do a good job in the 2nd service.one clarification, I donot feel the turbo thrust at first gear even at 2.5 k. The rpm revs but there is no turbo like thrust. But the car still pulls in this gear well from stand still.

In second and especially 3rd and 4th I feel the turbo thrust at just above 1700 rpm. I also hear a very low whining sound when I cross 1500 rpm in any gear. Is this the turbo noise or a problem??

mine is the 5 speed magna crdi.
