Firstly, cost of parts was on the higher side. Secondly, it boasts of a good engine and some unique features, which also add up to the price. This itself made the hatch as "premium". However, due to localisation and reduction in margins, the current price of the jazz is lesser.
This was the arguement given by Honda when they announced the price cut. However, there was a deep dive done on this by some experts (i dont remember the name of the TV show/channel), that this was only an excuse. The real reason was that the Jazz turned out to be a dud in terms of sales. It was total failure from the branding/positioning and marketing team.
