Nissan has luanched the Sunny, its entry level sedan at a very attractive price band. The base version is aprox. 5.7 lakhs while the top end is around 7.4 lakh.

What struck me most was the space inside this car. It has very good legroom for both front and back rows. Now Nissan is ramping its dealer network and has grown it from 12 to 45 since the launch of the Micra. It is beautifully desgined, and bosts of the lowest drag ratio which will make it very fuel efficient.

The 1.5 litre engine churns out 99PS of power, and given that this is just about 1tonne heavy, it should provide for a very good FE. ARAI claims it to be in the range of 16+ KMPL.

Finally it has all the features that any other car has in this segment has. Top model has key less entry and ignition, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Dual Air bags, Climate Control, Steering mounted audio controls, air vents in the rear (though not AC vents, they just pump air from front to back) etc.

Given these many features, low cost, beautiful design and loads of space, this car should do very well in the Indian market. The competetion in this segment just got even hotter!

This Sedan class car is giving good competitions especially with its price and features. This sedan class car will include body colored bumpers, tachometer, alloy wheels, power and tilt steering mechanism, front disc and rear drum brakes, alloys, 2 airbags, parking sensors, fog lamps, ABS with EBD etc.

It is geared up with an engine of 1.5L capacity in both petrol version delivering a maximum power of 99bhp with the impressive torque figure of 134 Nm.

The only downside for now is that there is not diesel variant. So considering the rising petrol prices I am not sure how much sales Nissan will manage to make. Probably they have already kept their sales targets low.

Sunny has got all the parameters right . Good looks , class leading space , powerful engine , good features & attractive pricing . Only down side is poor network & lack of marketing . No doubt there will be few buyers for petrol but it will help company to establish Sunny brand in India .

This pricing will have direct impact on low end sedan as well as premium hatchbacks like i20 , Jazz , Polo & Fabia .

Sridhar,

I heard that Sunny will also be alunced in the 1.5 ltr DCI engine that powerd Verito with some more power & torque.

Simply launching it with a petrol engine wont help. honda City is still the king of the road.

They better come up with a diesel else the sunny would die even before it can establish itself owing to having only a petrol variant and not so good A.S.S.C. network

Yes, Nissan is working on two of its weak points, namely the deisel engine and the delaer network.

The deisel engine should be ready for launch soon, though it is impossible to predict when, but it is in the pipeline.

They have also grown their network from 12 to 45 in about an year's time, and are ramping it up fast. So with these two things taken care of, they are poised to have a good future.

The low cost of Sunny is due to the fact that it is more than 85% localised. So going forward too, expect very aggresive pricing from Nissan. This also goes to show their seriousness and understanding of the Indian market.

Price of base petrol version is 5.7 lakhs so, we assume base diesel price will be around 6.7 lakhs ex showroom, its gonna blow the market if they can price the diesel variant right.

Also, the 1.5 ltr DCI engine is the best fuel efficient engine in any sedan. (22kmpl)

Sunny XE-Rs 634558/-(OTR)

Sunny XL-Rs 773382/-(OTR)

Sunny XV-Rs 861734/-(OTR)

Now, its territory is falling somewhere in Honda city's(after discounts on city). Many will prefer city cause of this i guess.
