I am also learning to drive on New Wagon R.

I find that jerk while shipting up is felt when the clutch is released too soon and accelerator is pressed.

If I synchronize clutch release and accelerator push slowly, the jerk is gone.

It has to be that way Ajay. Do not worry about it if you are.

An accident is generally the result of a screw loose in the nut behind the steering wheel

Hi Ajay

Practice and practice and one fine day you will be a good driver however when you feel that you have learnt driving and get slightly confident don’t try to be Schumacher that is the time mostly accidents do happen.

Theoretically I can tell you so many things however its that you need get hands-on training and good that you have a car and drive on a play ground when no one is there and slowly you will realize that you have got tuned to car and the driving

All the best

Regards

Mathew

Its better to prepare and prevent than to repair and repent :)

Thanks centaur MathewK for encouraging words

Actually I have never ridden even a bike in my life.  Though I learnt riding a chetak scooter but never had enough practice.

I  enrolled in Maruti driving school and along with Theory for two hours, and simulator for 1 hour, I have completed three hours of on road driving lesions.

The Practical Sessions details are as followed, all with instructor.

Day1.  On empty road.

Starting car from standstill, no issues managed to start from standstill without stalling.  Changing gears upto 4th ,  Figure of 8, some 90 degrees turns and U turns.  Managed to Ride back home in mild traffic.  Got stuck at a  crossing, Instructor helped to move the car. Overall satisfied with days results.

Day2.

Started from my apartment and got the vehicle to main road with medium traffic. Managed to overcome speed breakers,  stop and go at traffic signal.   Gear change was not major problem, could change without looking, but at times slotted into wrong gears. Instructor taught right technique to hold gear and that seems to work now.

Did some lane changing with indicators.

Struggled with steering, at corners specially and in  narrow lanes with pedestrian and other vehicles from other direction were creating enough distraction .Having issues to judge the left side reach of car.

Day3.

Went again to empty road and learnt U turn for whole time.  Still having issues in cornering, would stall the car or not being able to straighten car properly after a turn.

The instructor seems to be okay but he pushes too far sometimes that results in loss of concentration and mistakes.

I think I did ok, not too great but considering that I have no prior road experience, its   gonna  take little longer to get used to city driving. I still have  seven hours of on road lessions left.

Any suggestions from experienced are most welcome

Hi Ajay,

I am also a newbie driver with the same car, a small change 'di' instead of 'xi' Wink.

Dont worry about the problems that u face now, things like left side reach will come only with time spend with the car(driving). Some tips collected on my way

1)Slightly adjust your leftside mirror downwards when u are in an almost empty road, u can see the distance with road edge this will help to get an idea about your road position.

2)Draw two parallel lines in your parking lot at home and try parking in reverse through these lines with all the tyres in the line.

3)Drive daily atleast 10kms for 2-3 months starting with empty roads first and then in traffic (driving along a straight road will not help you much, choose roads that have some curves). Stop in a slop and takeoff again (do this with someones help if u r not confident enough).

4) After sometime try to control the steering with one hand.

When driving in bumper to bumper traffic is it ok with clutch driving, meaning clutch and brake, because it becomes too tedious to keep changing gears .

At times i feel when i release the clutch the car just jerks and moves forward fast.
