Hi went through the discussion about AT and MT in carwale. I have a requirement where I need to convert my WagonR Duo Lxi to AT. Can it be done? Can I do it by Maruti itself. What is the cost? Typical responses which I will get is to buy A star automatic...or not to convert etc etc but am open for all your suggestions. What are the modifications apart from complete replacement of MT gear box with an AT box. Is there any engine modifications?

Any Good state of the art workshops in Kolkata performing this kind of conversions.

Converting a manual transmission into automatic is a very much difficult process, to say the least. The only possibility here is to obtain a donor transmission from the three-speed wagonR automatic. Believe me, this was one of the worst gearboxes offered on any car till date other than the two speed automatic on the Maruti 800. The gearbox from the Automatic WR may be plonked into your car, but that too requires a lot of skill and precision. I would not disappoint you by saying that its impossible, and buy an A-Star etc. But I would request you to do some more research.

Basically, the three speed automatic gearbox is a very old and technologically ancient GB. Hence, electrical components like Transmission Control Module etc are absent, thus making the Job simpler on the electrical side. Mechanically, you will need to obtain the entire transmisssion, starting from the torque convertor to the driveshafts. This would make the job easier.

Costwise dont ask, as it will be quite heavenly. Also, availability of parts is an unanswerable question.
