I had bought a new  i10 Magna 1.1 from sec 63 noida showroom. However on the 1st day itself..while driving the car back home on noida - greatre noida expressway..i was at 65kmph speed and a very small stone came & hit my windshield. which led to a crack..I  was surprised to see this since i had a maruti zen prior to this and its windshield was much more strong!

I asked Hyundai dealer from whom i purchased the car..that i need to get my windshield ..that too free of charge..since i feel the quality is defective..but he dint agree and said that car mst have been at high speed and the stone mst have come at a v high speed to have cracked the windshield.

They say that i need to claim insurance on this and get windshield replaced and that will cost me rs 1200 even after claim. Now i dint get it replaced since the crack is contained currently. Also i havent yet got my permanent RC..so insurance cant be claimed..thats what the dealer told me.

I want to know if i am entitled to a free replacement. and if not then is rs1200 ok or should i get it replaced by local car markets like sec16 noida etc. (since i will loose the no claim bonus once i claim insurance).

I will be going for my 1st servicing within 2 days..so wanted to know if i shud get it replaced from dealer itself or get it done from local car market.

Well, IMO the replacement will not be under warranty. I don't think they will cover something like a projectile hitting the windscreen thereby cracking/breaking it. Since the car is new and under warranty, get it done by the ASC or dealer.

Thanks!!

I just contacted Windshield experts also. They said the job will take rs860 (with insurance claim) and can be done in 2 hrs flat. Whereas my service centre says that i need to leave the car with them for 2 days (which i cannot actually) and they will charge me Rs 1200 for the job.

So is it advisable to get it done by windsheidl experts?

and sorry for my ignorance..but what is meant by replacment not being covered under warranty? does that mean in case the next windshield cracks again..i will not be able to claim insurance on it?

and in case i get it done from windshield experts..am i safe to be covered under insurance for next time in case i need to claim insurance on it again.

"Covered under warranty" means that you don't have to pay for it (which also means that you don't have to claim insurance). "Under insurance" basically means that its not being done under warranty - someone is paying for it - the insurance company, in this case.

You may get the windshield replaced by the windshield experts - just make sure they're genuine. Also don't let ASC know about this, lest they try to refuse warranty related work suring regular services.

Get it done by windshield experts. Which city are you from? Here I would bet on WE anyday. They do the job as good or professional as any service station, and within very less time. Also, their cost is lesser compared to the Hyundai people. Its quite obvious that your dealer cannot replace it under warranty as it has happened due to a stone hit. It is ok to get the windshield replaced by them, as WE stocks original equipment glass.

Sir,

This has happened with me also, I also have new car Zen estilo Vxi. A Child hit the windshield with a stone & minor crack on windshield formed.

I asked my known agency person for the same. Since glass is not under warrenty, but we can take insurance & Rs 1500 to be charged for gluing & labour etc. But he further advice that if crack is minor &  check for 2-3 days that crack is increasing or not. If not then no need to get replaced. I didnot get it replaced.

So, if you think the crack is minor then not go for change & if you wish to get it changed get changed from dealer, reason being that outside persons have less instruments/equipment for doing the work & may get damage to your new car.

Ok thanks everyone for your valuable inputs. I am in Noida and there is a WE branch in Noida sec2. I will find out more abt them as such. but they seem to be good at their work.

The crack currently is contained, so i am continuing with it. Lemme see with time if i need to get it replaced.

I also got crack in my new I20 car by hitting a small stone when I was driving on noida - greater noida expressway on 6-Aug-2011. There must be some crappy construction work going on flyovers.

I am also looking now the option to get it replaced.. Are there any problems if I drive my car with that small crack (its on the driving side).

Please suggest what is the best option to get it replaced by insurance or by local market or by company service station or windshield experts ?

What will be the estimated price  of it ??

It is good to replace by authorised service station as you get orignal thing. If you think the crack is minor then not go for change. But if it is disturing in driving or increasing than go for change.

Hi Sowmya,

I'd suggest you to go with WE if you are comforatble about their professionalism and if they use the original Hyundai screen. (You may check the packaging MRP at any Hyundai workshop and compare the same at WE). I say this because I have first hand experience at the particular workshop that you have mentioned and the work quality at their bodyshop is worse than the local garages. They charge thrice the local guys and the work quality/reliability/concern is pathetic. I had my bumper paint peeling off 2 months after they (supposedly) repainted it!  The last time I gave my i10 there, they even scrached the good surfaces while denting/painting jobs. The result was complete crap job (which took a huge amount of time.) .
