Hi everyone

I got a Ford Figo 1.2 ZXi on 2nd July this month, Have run for almost 780 KMs or so. But the worrisome part is the F.E. which is around 8.5 KMPL. Most of the driving has been in-city driving in Kolkata and about 120 KMs on the highway. I do keep my ACs on most of the time (90-95%). But still, I feel that FE is really bad. Would it improve after servicing or should I go to the workshop?

Some pointers/suggestions would definitely help.

P.S. I am quite a newbie for cars. Thisis my first one !

Many thanks all.

Well, as per common experience, new cars tend to have lower mileage till the 1st (or even 2nd) service. That's basically because the engine has tighter tolerances between its parts and with use, these parts will sort of grind or polish themselves till friction reduces. Till then the friction will be a bit greater and hence mileage will be less.

I had the same problem in my Titanium Patrol. It will increase after around 3k kms.

Note that you need to keep tyre pressure 36/41 when you ride with pasengers. It appears to be way too high but the car performs well with this tyre pressure. Please refer to the manual about this.I prefer to fill Nitrogen in the tyres, with this you do npt need to keep checking tyre pressure frequently.

Also, refer to the manual for the gear changing ratio.

36/41 :O Please do not keep such high pressures. 2psi above manufacturer recommended will do good to the FE. Anything more than that will make the ride harsh and will cause damage to the suspension, as the tyre's capacity to smoothen sudden shocks is reduced. Nitrogen or air, but not this much..

Hi Sankalp,

Ford Figo's owners manual reccommends this tyre pressure 36/41 (loaded). Even I found it difficult to accept at first. I spoke to a service adviser at dealer over the phone, and he told me to follow the manual. This will also help improve the GC of the car which is otherwise a problem.

If that is recommended, its fine. Usually tire pressure will be within 35psi so this one grabbed my attention.

Why not, if the manual says so? Go purely by the manufacturer's specification. They will have a reason behind it. But please verify it first.

Thanks all !! I have had an increase in my mileage thereafter..now the car has travelled almost for 6000 Kms and is giving a mileage of approx 11 KMPL in the city..

A strange problem which I have been facing for quite some time is a foul smell whenever I turn on the blower. In fact the smell starts when the car starts running but is accentuated whenever i turn on the blower. The only respite is the AC which I have to turn on to counter the smell...The AC nullifies the smell..

But am really concerned about the smell in my Figo only after running for 5000 + Kms !

Any suggestions or pointers would really help..

First of all, I am sorry that I hit this old thread but it triggered a good discussion. ashisk, I faced a similar problem with the AC. Please have a look at this thread I started: http://www.carwale.com/Forums/viewthread-25945.html. I checked the manual again regarding the Tyre pressure. It says: Unladen: 30/30 Laden: 36/41 Confirmed. Regards, Sabya
